Tatted_book_freak says: "Another intense read by an amazing author!" about Scapegoat by JR Gray in her review shared here and on her bookstagram!
From the blurb:
At seventeen, I ran. I joined the military and planned to never step foot in my home town again. Nothing could make me return to that hellhole and the pain I buried there, or so I thought— until I found myself on a plane to that very place.
Almost two decades later, I’m forced home to help find a missing nine year old. As a member of the most elite K9 special unit in the country, it was my job and you can’t exactly say no to the FBI. It should be easy, and I won’t have to face what I ran from.
However, the case is anything but simple and to make matters worse, I’m faced with the last person I ever wanted to see again: Officer Callum Stone— the sheriff’s son and the town’s golden boy. Only he’s not anymore—he’s a ruin of what he once was.
It’s Callum’s kid who’s missing, and all the feelings I’d spent almost twenty years running from rise to the surface.
As secrets come to light, we realize our small town is hiding a lot more than we thought, and we’ll have to follow the trail of deception to get justice and maybe a second chance at love.
Scapegoat is a second chance MM romantic suspense, featuring a small town, some FBI K9 fun, and hurt/comfort vibes. It is the first book in J.R. Gray's Working Dogs series, which will be packed with action, suspense, and humor.
Tatted_Book_Freak's Review:
Another intense read by an amazing author! His love for suspense, mystery and tragedy is a textbook to the depths of my soul. J.R. completely grasped my attention, keeping my mind entirely intrigued with every turn of the page. And, what is up with all these mini-adult kids?! I swear, they continue to fascinate me with their intellect and knowledge!
“βπ πππ₯π₯ππ£ π¨πππ₯ πππ‘π‘πππ€, π ππ π₯ πͺπ π¦. π’π πππ£π ππ πͺπ π¦ ππππ ππ.”
I am at a loss of words for what Callum has been through, with both his loss of his heart and the tragic circumstances he has endured within these pages. J.R. spoke with raw emotions when delivering the events of Cal’s upbringing, leading to the inevitable temporary loss of his lover. But, everyone deserves a second chance!
“π ππ π¦πππ’π₯ ππ£πππ ππͺπ€πππ π₯π ππ π π π¦π‘ π¨ππ₯π πππ πππ£π, πππ π’π π₯ππ£ππ π π π‘π£ππ₯ππππππ.”
Hats off to Nolan for his inability to stay strong with Callum! Though he was never at a loss for words when dealing with him after seventeen years, being blunt and direct with his feelings for him. He handled his hurt like an adult, never becoming bitter but anxious when returning to his hometown.
“π πππ’π₯ πππππππ πππͺπ₯ππππ πππ₯π₯ππ£ π₯πππ πππππππͺ πππ§πππ πͺπ π¦ ππ€ πππ π€π ππ€ π πππ πππ₯ πͺπ π¦.”
This connection was remarkably perfect! Even throughout their struggles, the chemistry was pure.
“This felt monumental. Like we’d waited for each other, even if unconsciously.” I have never experienced a love more pure, more worthy than these two characters! The intimacy was pure bliss, paving way for some explosive smut scenes!!
“ππ π¦ π¨ππ£ππ’π₯ ππ πππ ππ₯. ππ πππ ππ πππ π₯π ππ£πππ ππ₯ π₯π π₯πππ,”
Maddie and her mouth was everything!! Love an intelligent pint sized character, especially when they have some humorous whit trapped inside
Rating: 5 Stars
