FBI Files Boxed Set (Books 4-6) by Patricia Logan; Narrated by Michael Dean

This is the second box set of the law enforcement series the FBI Files by Patricia Logan. I love this series!

From the blurb:

The FBI Files Boxed set (Books 4-6) contains Life on Mars, A Clown Car Full of Sovereigns, and Stag Queen with a bonus feature of Extinction, the exciting prequel to the FBI Files series. These novels tell the story of Special Agent Max Prince and his new partner, profiler, Dr. Leo Reeves. Lincoln Snow has assembled are a fine assortment of Marine Corps vets and even a Green Beret. As these men find resolution, peace, and happiness to their very different lives once they find each other.

Life on Mars: Things aren’t always what they seem.. Special agent, Max Prince, and his boyfriend, Dr. Leo Reeves, are back to work after their first case together. When a Department of Defense scientist kills himself in a mysterious way, their entire FBI team is tasked to figure out if the weapon he was working on was somehow the cause of his death. Things get even more interesting when SAC Lincoln Snow calls in old friends to help. Damon Thorne, formerly of the CIA, and Jarrett and Thayne from the ATF step up to help on the premise that their case might have a link to biological terrorism. But it's so much worse.

Seventy years ago, the CIA began an illegal human experimentation program, code named MK-ULTRA, and the more Leo and Max learn about what Dr. Cummings has been doing for the DOD, the closer they draw parallels to the defunct program. These experiments aren’t the only things the government scientist has been working on. When Jarrett and Thayne go exploring at his house, they discover a secret room which promises to reveal the true nature of what’s happening…and it’s worse than they could’ve imagined.

Evil always targets the most vulnerable.Just when they think they’ve figured out what’s going on, an old nemesis from the FBI steps in with instructions to shut it all down and take over. All Max knows is, the sudden appearance of a guy their whole team hates, can’t be good, especially when he starts throwing his weight around. After all—Truth is stranger than fiction.

Lesetiger's review:

Have I already said that I love this series? That's why I was so excited to read more books about Special Agent Max Prince and Dr. Leo Reeves. I recommend reading the books in order, because then you understand the relationship between the two and also the team and its dynamics better.

The stories are entertaining, I love the mix of suspense and romance. There is not just one mysterious case to solve. A suicide that is questionable. A family man who is murdered - the developments that follow are extremely interesting.
The story scores with some surprising twists that I wasn't expecting, as well as with believable protagonists and an entertaining storyline.
And generally you have to pay attention, because a lot happens, but I think that's really cool. There are no easy cases for the team to solve and I love it when it gets more complicated.
The team also includes Leo and Max as well as members of the ATF, which is great because I love getting to know characters from other series.

The writing style is wonderful as always and as soon as I had listened for a few minutes, I was right in the middle of Max and Leo. They are a hot couple and you can feel their deep connection to each other.
But their relationship is put to the test when they are both conducting their own investigations and they end up very far apart. Can this go well?

This bundle captivated me from start to finish. I listened to the audiobook and once I started, it was really hard to stop listening in between. Michael Dean did a phenomenal job bringing the story to life with his pleasant voice. I always knew which character he was voicing. He is also a master at conveying the emotions to the listener very vividly. I shivered along as disaster loomed in the desert.
It remained exciting right to the end - including the stag party. I highly recommend this package with the bonus story!
