The Immortal Covenant (Hearts of Allaria Book 3) by Elric Shaw

Two soldiers never meant to find a connection with each other can't deny their attraction. But even though Malorg and Sarilian fight for their hopeless relationship, they seem destined to be kept apart.

From The Immortal Covenant blurb:

Is love powerful enough to conquer eternal duty?

Ever since his rebirth as a Celestial, Sarilian has held fast to his vows to protect Allaria from the relentless armies of the Void. But when a harrowing battle goes awry, he finds salvation in the most unlikely of sources: a brooding Infernal who has long since given up.

Malorg lost faith in his eternal vigil centuries ago. Why bother resisting the Void’s inevitable triumph when all efforts lead to loss? Yet, a chance encounter with a naive Celestial rekindles parts of himself he’d thought forever buried.

Faced with the ever-looming threat of the Void and the ceaseless machinations of their kin, Sarilian and Malorg struggle to nurture their nascent bond. But the Immortal Realm offers little refuge for an Infernal and Celestial, and it will take every ounce of their strength and courage to transcend the shackles of duty and forge a new covenant of the heart…

The Immortal Covenant is a slow burn MM fantasy romance featuring enemies-to-lovers, second chance, grumpy/sunshine, and a hard-won HEA. Every book in Hearts of Allaria is standalone and can be read in any order.

SNik's review:

Third in series (Hearts of Allaria), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal fantasy. Adversarial to lovers. Impossible relationship. Grumpy/sunshine. Closed-door. Dual POV.

Malorg is tired of the fighting he has done for centuries, but when he comes to the aid of a Celestial there is something about Sarilian and his optimism that breaks through Malorg’s despair. Sarilian has found an unusual happiness with the Infernal soldier Malorg, but their people coexist and do not mingle and when Sarilian has to choose between duty and Malorg he is unsure.

Both Malorg and Sarilian are likable characters, their feelings for each other were deep and emotional and their two unwelcoming societies definitely felt impossible to overcome. I enjoyed that their differences actually meshed giving them a sense of soulmates and that their feelings never disappeared entirely even when they were at odds. This story did bring tears to my eyes at points, my favorite parts are when Malorg and Sarilian are on page together and I'm really a fan of this series.
