Protect My Heart is the fifth book in the Rock U series and is part of the Mesa Boys universe. This novel features a nerdy law student falling for his jock of a bodyguard amongst a bisexual awakening, forced proximity and a backdrop of a shady scheme. It guarantees an HEA and has no cliffhangers. It features a rich boy with daddy issues, and a man whos questioning himself. Each book features a different couple and can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.
Trigger warning: This book contains themes of prejudice by a parent and a deceased parent. It also contains mention of a previous suicide attempt.
Reed Kaye's review:
This story is about a bodyguard and coming out story. I really enjoyed Gabe and Jeremy’s story. Both are stumbling with any sort of relationship. Neither really have time. Gabe is in law school and has a dad who accepts nothing less than top grades. Gabe has no time for much else. He watches his roommates getting involved and envies them. Then his dad contacts him about needing better security or needs to move home. His dad has a law firm and is concerned about someone possibly causing his family harm. Gabe has no intention of moving home. His mom and brother know he is gay but he is afraid of his dad finding out. His dad’s solution is to hire Jeremy to be a bodyguard for him.
Jeremy works for Gabe’s dad and is planning on attending law school next year as soon as his finances are better.
Then these two have a sort of instant attraction after Gabe finally agrees to accept Jeremy being with him.
This is a heartwarming story. I enjoyed the secondary characters and was happy for the resolution between Gabe and his dad.
The narration by Finnley Cole really brought these characters to life.
