A Fae Coin Transported Me Into Another World and Now I'm the Gay Holy Maiden (Fortune Favors the Fae Book 1) by AJ Sherwood

A Fae Coin Transported Me Into Another World and Now I'm the Gay Holy Maiden (seriously, longest title EVER!) is the first in the shared Fortune Favours the Fae series. It's fun, low angst, with all the found family feels.

From the blurb:

What happens when you fall and hit the webtoons trope tree? You get killed by Truck-kun, get transported to a fantasy world by a sentient Fae coin, and become the first gay holy maiden.

Jake Alexander is Not Happy to be sure. Fortunately in Jake’s case, part of the trope tree includes the gorgeous Duke of the North, Theon. And starting a business from scratch, which he’s always wanted to do. And revitalizing his new country which is on the verge of collapse.

He could do without the killer miasma and corrupted kings and the singing magic and a sentient coin that doesn’t shut up, however.

Jake’s not sure if he should thank or melt the Fae coin into *ahem* something more useful.

Rogue's review:

- fantasy
- found family
- low angst

This is the first in a shared world series, all based around a fae coin that somehow travels around causing mayhem. Jake hates his life, and is just celebrating being divorced from what could quite possibly be the biggest man-child ever, when he picks up a fae coin and is transported into the bed of a fae Duke in another realm.

What follows is a very funny, fast-paced, thoroughly enjoyable story. I'm not into manga or anime really, but I'm familiar enough with some of the tropes that I could appreciate the humour and Jake with his bingo card of tropes. I love the idea of a man being hailed as a holy maiden, when it's apparent he's very far from that 😂. The interactions between Jake and Coin were hilarious, and I did laugh out loud more than once. I also like that Jake was more than able to rescue and defend himself and wasn't a damsel in distress in the slightest.

His love of contracts and the whole courtship with Theon was beyond adorable, I cannot stress enough how much I loved the communication between them. No misunderstandings, these two were honest and open and there's not enough of that in books. This whole story was such a fun romp, I loved it from beginning to end.
