Conall (Black Cat Circus: Pearl of Fate) by Rye Cox

Black Cat Circus is back with season two! Our favorite side characters now get their time to shine, Rye Cox, has brought Conall to the front in this slow burn low angst book.

What would you do if the man you're interested in tells you he's a prince?

From the blurb:

Conall grew up as one of the few humans in the circus. He loves his magical family but can't help feeling like the odd one out. He's too romantic, too naive, and too ordinary.

Tidun has it all. The looks, the fame, the family lineage, but he feels like something is missing. Sperm whale shifters are tight-knit, and as the only prince of the royal family, he's beloved by his people. Still, he yearns for something more.

A runaway briefcase full of questionable content, and Conall gallantly stepping in to save the day, has both of them lingering in each other's thoughts. Conall wants to find the person he's meant to be with. Tidun fears being tied-down, but he can't see being with Conall as anything else but true freedom.

It's unheard of for a sperm whale shifter to have a human for a mate, but they have to make it work or risk drowning in the noise of everything else.

Conall is an opposites attract, slow burn, and fated mates paranormal MM romance between a sperm whale shifter prince and a human. The Black Cat Circus: Pearl of Fate is a multi-author series and season two of the Black Cat Circus World that features found family and a magical cast of characters. Each book can be read as a standalone but is better enjoyed as a series.

Molly Otto's review:

It's time our favorite ferris wheel attendants time to be in the spotlight! Conall has always loved being a part of Black Cat Circus, yet I can't help but feel alone being one of the few humans. Tidun has always had the world at his fingertips, yet he doesn't feel like he is enough. When fate has these two path crosses, neither can block out the other.

Appreciate that Tidun takes his time making sure Conall is comfortable with the pace of the relationship. These two share a beautiful trust for each other that develops beautifully throughout the story. I am so happy to see the authors have kept true to the feel of season one.

Angel's review:

We're back at the circus!! I am so happy to continue to read these incredible stories by these really talented authors. We get introduced to Conall during the first run of this series. He's the lovable, eager, and happy go lucky guy who was raised at the circus. He also runs the Ferris wheel, along with creating sketches of the people that visits the circus. I was really hoping Conall would get his own partner after reading about him in Rhett's story, and guess what? He didn't only find a partner, but his fated mate!!

I think I've only ever read one other shifter book about a whale, and this one was quite different from that story, in a good way! The concept of Tidun having a storage ring was really unique, and I really enjoyed the scene where Conall and Aisha went to the underwater market with him! That was such an awesome scene and was really creative! I personally love the water, so for this book to have a main character whose life essentially revolves around the water was really amazing.

I think what I love the most about this series is how caring, supportive, and loving everyone apart of the circus is of one another. It's truly beautiful, and I love the found family trope, and this series has that in spades. I enjoyed the details that went into depicting what Conall was drawing, I found that to be really intricately done. The way both of these men were so open, supportive and encouraging of one another was so beautiful to read about. They truly are such an incredible couple, and really fit well together.

If you read August's book, then you got introduced to this mysterious seashell there first, it made a second appearance in this story. I'm not sure what's going on with this seashell but I definitely think it's what's helping these incredible characters find their mates. I can't wait to see these other characters get their happy ever afters, and I'm looking forward to learning more about this seashell!

Rogue's Review:

This is the second in the Black Cat Circus: Pearl of Fate series, following Conall who does appear in the first season of the Black Cat Circus books, and Tidun, a new character.

I'm glad Conall finally got his own story, he's been a recurring character in the background up till now and I was happy to see him in the spotlight and learn more about him. Tidun is a new character, a sperm whale shifter and also prince of his sperm whale kingdom who's trying to find his place, and struggling with that.

There's an instant connection between the two, a spark when they meet, and neither can stop thinking about the other until Tidun tracks down Conall at the circus. It's a fast development of their relationship, after a day they're already boyfriends and talking about forever and it just felt a little rushed, but that's often the way with what turns out to be fated mates. The pearl of fate makes another appearance and still we know very little about it, and what it is and does. While the relationship moved ultra fast, I still liked how Tidun took things relatively slowly with the inexperienced Conall, and they did fit together well, complementing each other and supporting each other.

I really enjoyed this, I do like the cast of the BCC and look forward to more.
