Once again newbie to the genre Kate Munro impresses me with their second book in the Soulmates series. A Consumption of Souls is a great sequel to book 1. We continue to follow both Jake and Maddox, along with their close circle of friends, while they try to unravel the mystery of The Challenge. So much went on in this book, but it never felt like too much you know? Even the prologue had my brain going a mile a minute trying to suss out what the heck was going on. I was definitely invested in the story right from that moment.
I don't want to get into too many details because it would be way too easy to spoil things and I want readers to be able to enjoy the book as it plays out like I did. I enjoyed all the clues coming together and my theories changing as the story went on and new details came to light. I also loved that we got a bit more insight into Cricket and a certain Dean. Not much, but it definitely answered my biggest question about those two.
While the storyline for Maddox and Jake's relationship appears to be finished, the major plot is still ongoing. Book 3 is going to focus on another pairing and I highly suggest you read this book before you even think about searching out the blurb for book 3. Just trust me on this. You want the full impact of meeting these characters and learning their history. I cannot wait until their book comes out next!
