The Rockstar: The Portland Protectors-EHM Security Series Book 1 by Emerson Beckett & Rheland Richmond

The Rockstar is the first book in The Portland Protectors-EHM Security series by author duo Emerson Beckett and Rheland Richmond, which features a demiromantic bodyguard and a rockstar who has given up on love.

From the blurb:

The first book in the sexy new bodyguard series set in the Package Deal World.

Adam Spencer – “The Rockstar”
Here’s what I know -- some people aren’t meant to find love.
And as much as I want to be someone’s everything, that’s not meant for me.
After a painful breakup, I channeled all my hurt into a song that has skyrocketed my band, Fallen Angel, to the top of the charts.
Now I need protection from the one person who was supposed to love me no matter what—my mother.
Whether I want him or not, I now have a sexy, silver-tongued southern charmer as my 24/7 bodyguard.
I’ve tried not to fall for him, because I don’t do relationships. They hurt too much.
But Michael has me thinking I could take one more chance to find love.
Or was I meant to be alone like I'd thought all along?

Michael Coleman – “Phantom”
I’ve always been a protector. During my career as a Navy SEAL, my duty was to find undisclosed information and protect my team.
Now I need to protect the sexy rockstar I love flirting with every time he walks in the door to our EHM office.
Adam Spencer lights me up like no one ever has. And that’s saying something.
I’ll do whatever it takes to protect him, even from himself.
Have I finally found the love I’ve been hoping for with my rockstar?

The Rockstar is a flirty, friends-to-lovers, bodyguard and rockstar MM Romance that takes place in the Package Deal Series World. It can be read as a stand-alone book.

Trigger Warning: There is off the page reference to physical abuse to a minor.

Oh Adam. You sweet, sweet boy. I wasn't sure how I felt about Adam before starting The Rockstar. He appeared first in Ineligible Receiver as Cooper's boyfriend. A man who was in the way of Cooper being with Greg, so it didn't exactly endear me to him. But these two authors worked their magic and by the end of the damn prologue I was firmly in the I love Adam camp. He broke my damn heart. Yes, he may be a famous rockstar now, but he wasn't always. Once he was a scared little boy who, more than anything in the world, wished for a parent who loved him. For anyone to love him, really. And though he was eventually taken in by his best friend Cole's family, the fear of abandonment never truly left him. Trauma will do that to a person.

I absolutely loved Phantom aka Michael. He was exactly what Adam needed in his life. Michael saw him, the real him. His work as Adam's bodyguard kept these two in close quarters, which gave Michael a lot of opportunities to get to know him outside of his file. He'd already enjoyed spending time with Adam as a friend, but I think he surprised even himself when he started to develop romantic feelings for him as well.

"𝘐 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘐'𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦. 𝘐 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦'𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘨𝘰.

𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦'𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦. "

Michael is good at reading people and I think that helped immensely with his relationship with Adam. Adam tended to get all up in his head a lot. Michael could usually tell when this was happening and instinctively knew how to help. Whether with words or a sweet kiss on the forehead, Michael would always work to bring back the smile on Adam's face. I just loved them together and I couldn't have asked for things to turn out better in the end for them both.

Now the next book is going to be Cole and Patrick. Thank freaking goodness because I already told Miss Beckett I may have started a revolt if I had to wait for another book between this one and theirs. Cole is such a wonderful man and friend. I hate that he's hurting and that it's the man who loves him who's the cause. Those two need to figure their shit out, and they need to do it yesterday. For all our sakes.

Heather's Review:

I'm loving the progression of Emerson Beckett's and Rheland Richmond's co-writing adventures!  This new series spin-off that features a bodyguard/rockstar combination is a delicious read with just enough angst, a little suspense and a chance to watch a never-really-fake relationship grow stronger!

I love the way this duo develop characters - they've got depth, they have pain and they have spirit!  I love how well He-man and Rockstar fit together and how they develop a rhythm to their relationship that is decidedly fun to watch.

I also like that, while this isn't specifically a holiday story, that we get a nod to the holidays in it!  I can't wait to see what happens with Cole and Patrick's story!
