Scrooge You! (Christmas Falls Book 9) by Brigham Vaughn

It's time to say goodbye to Christmas Falls with this grumpy sunshine holiday romance. SCROOGE YOU! was the right choice to close this fun series while still being sweet has just the right amount of snark to keep us still entertained.

From the blurb:

Joel McArthur thought he knew everyone in the small town of Christmas Falls. He’s been running Ginger’s Breads bakery for more than a decade, after all.

But who is the mysterious runner who’s been passing by his shop every morning?

Hayden Bradley’s post-college plans fell through, landing him in this stupid small town he can’t get out of fast enough.

He hates Christmas and he’s tired of the endless holiday cheer.

But as Hayden finds himself spending more and more time at Joel’s bakery, he’s forced to admit that he’s developed a taste for the ginger-molasses cookies and the handsome ginger-haired baker who makes them.

Christmas Falls is a multi-author M/M romance series set in a small town that thrives on enough holiday charm to rival any Hallmark movie.

Content Warning: Discussion of a past death of a parent/missing them at the holidays.

Molly Otto's Review:

Scrooge You! is a great conclusion to this multi author universe. Brigham brings us the perfect balance of snark and heart in this grumpy/sunshine holiday romance. Whereas some books in this series were too sweet for me, this one hit that balance just right.

What starts off as a miscommunication, the pair keeps being brought back to each other until they just give in and give it a go. The pair balance each other out beautifully even when life gets in the way you can see their draw to each other.

Overall, it is the perfect closing book for this series.

SNik's Review:

Part of a multi-author series (Christmas Falls) in a shared small town setting, but each can be read as a standalone story. Age gap. Grumpy/sunshine. Ticking clock. Dual POV.

Hayden doesn’t want to be in Christmas Falls living in his mom’s basement, but finding a job in web design has been tough, and the holidays always remind him of loss.

Joel loves his life as a baker in his hometown, and although Hayden is grumpy and younger, Joel wants to get to know him as a friend or more, even though he knows Hayden plans to leave town as soon as he finds a job. Joel is such a sweet cinnamon roll, and I enjoyed the dating, flirting and fun interactions they had as they got to know each other.

I appreciated their honest communication, the times they spent just hanging out, as well as the steamy times.

Rooting for two men trying to figure out how to make their relationship work with all the holiday activities surrounding them was a cute read (that gives a final glimpse of all the characters from the Christmas Falls series).

Heather's Review:

I am sad to be leaving Christmas Falls - it's been a wonderful place for holiday stories with a variety of twists, and Brigham Vaughn's Scrooge You is no exception.

It's an age gap, grumpy/sunshine romance that helps Hayden find his place in Christmas Falls and brings Joel out into the world in a different way than he has been - as a participant instead of just a vendor...

I enjoyed watching them get to know each other, experience the holidays and of course the steamy times!  This book was well balanced and a great way to bring the series to a close.  It could be read standalone, but there are great cameos from other characters from the series.

Angel's Review:

I don't want to leave Christmas Falls yet! This world was artistically crafted, full of extraordinary detail, and the way it was written made me wish Christmas Falls was a real place. If it was I would be planning a trip right away!!

I love books where the MC is a baker, so for Joel to not only love baking but he owns his own bakery was just a delight to read about! I adore how Brigham actually had so many scenes of him working in his bakery creating his creations, interacting with his customers, along with cooking for those special moments with Hayden. I loved those scenes the most! They were packed with detail and as someone who bakes, was spot on! The pie tasting competition was a delight to read, and made me giggle at the descriptions Joel gave of each pie. It was really cool to see that competition happen from Joel's POV. If you want to see Jem's POV of that event, you should go read Beth Bolden's addition to this series!

Hayden's character was a very adorable grump. Even when he was down on his luck and a bit snappy, he still tried to be nice and do his best. I enjoyed watching his and Joel's relationship develop, along with his relationship with his stepdad. Those tender moments were done so well and definitely pulled in my heart strings.

I liked the contrast of these two MCs, they are different from the other but work so beautifully together! I love, love, loved, that they prioritized communicating with each other. (It took them a little bit, but they did get there.) I liked how they both worked together to figure out a way for them both to have what they want, and figure out a way to have more time for spending together.

My favorite part of this book is how all of the past couples in this series were mentioned. It was like catching up with old friends in a way. We got one last catch up and farewell to all of these incredible characters, and nods to the other books that are a part of Christmas Falls. I am sad to see this series end, but I loved every minute of being immersed in Christmas Falls's charm. I highly recommend you to not only read this book, but to go get the other books in this series. I promise, they won't disappoint.
