The Couple Next Door is full of twists that kept my attention until the end. Plenty of strange behaviors and unexpected history. Events that have unexpected outcomes.
From the blurb:
Jeremy Booth leads a simple life, scraping by in the gay neighborhood of Seattle, never letting his lack of material things get him down. But the one thing he really wants—someone to love—seems elusive. Until the couple next door moves in and Jeremy sees the man of his dreams, Shane McCallister, pushed down the stairs by a brute named Cole.
Jeremy would never go after another man’s boyfriend, so he reaches out to Shane in friendship while suppressing his feelings of attraction. But the feeling of something being off only begins with Cole being a hard-fisted bully—it ends with him seeming to be different people at different times. Some days, Cole is the mild-mannered John and then, one night in a bar, he’s the sassy and vivacious drag queen Vera.
So how can Jeremy rescue the man of his dreams from a situation that seems to get crazier and more dangerous by the day? By getting close to the couple next door, Jeremy not only puts a potential love in jeopardy, but eventually his very life.
Reedkaye's Review:
The Couple Next Door held my attention right till the end. It starts with Jeremy finding out there is trouble with his new neighbors. Not able to ignore it is the beginning of a twisted series of events.
Shane and John are the new neighbors, and things are not as they seem. There have been issues surrounding these two since they were kids. Their childhood leads to events that made me cringe.
This whole story is full of partial truths that come out, strange behaviors and even a romance. In the end, the author pulled everything together and made me happy to have enjoyed another story from him.
The narrator Wesley Landry did a great job bringing all the different characters to life. It added believability to many of the events.

I was enamored right away and held on edge until the last word! The suspense, twists, wtf moments, and revelations will suck you in right away! There were a few times I had to step away because of the intensity of uncertainty. It’s been a long time since a thriller has caught my attention, but Rick does a phenomenal job with the storyline.
A first-time listener of Wesley Landry and I am more than impressed with his performance!
His voice has a unique style and distinctive tone that he’ll pull you into the mix. His variation of characters, with each having their unique sound and style, left me with feelings of complete satisfaction, even if there were limited romantic moments.

Lesetiger's Review:
I like Rick R. Reed's writing style, because he manages to get me right into the story very quickly and prepare you for an emotional rollercoaster ride with some surprising twists and turns.
Jeremy's life changes abruptly when a couple moves in next door. He meets Shane, who has been abused. This touches Jeremy, because he has a big heart. And the more time he spends with Shane, the more he feels attracted to him. But in doing so, he unwittingly enters dangerous territory.
The story was exciting and entertaining and I was rooting for Jeremy. I didn't see the ending coming and that's what makes a good thriller.
Wesley Landry read the audiobook and it was the first audiobook I've listened to by him. But I was delighted with his performance because he read with variety and I was able to distinguish the protagonists well. He also portrayed the emotions well. I'm already looking forward to more audiobooks with him as narrator.
