Clean Slade by Rhys Everly (Mayberry Protectors #4)

Crime, hidden secrets, family and re-connecting with a long ago one-night stand bring the drama to Clean Slade.

From the blurb:

"I told you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you and I intend to keep my promise"

Slade
Our first encounter took my breath away.
Ten years later, he's acting as if we never met.
As if we never kissed.
And he says all he wants from me is to protect his daughter from the people after him.
He says he can take care of himself, but I don't believe it.
I know he needs saving, even if it's from himself.

King
All I ever wanted was a clean slate for my daughter and me.
But the past has other ideas.
The man I've been hiding from has found me and he will stop at nothing to exact his revenge.
And Slade is here to protect me.
I never forgot about him, but I can’t tell him that. I can’t let him in.
And he can’t find out the truth about me. No one can.

Welcome to Mayberry Holm, a small island in the Atlantic full of crime, secrets and happily-ever-afters, and the ex-Navy SEALs that come to deal with them all.

KJNRose's Review:

I have loved this series so much and this one did not disappoint at all. It has action, suspense, and the return of a one night stand. This can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the other books first as they all tie in. I can't wait for the next one!

Heather's Review:

I jumped into this book as the fourth in the series, but I didn't feel particularly lost, as the overarching plot was minimal compared to the specific intrigue involving King and his family.  This story has a lot of revealed duality, an adorable child, some good laughs, a slow burn romance and a pair of pets named Thelma and Louise...

I've added the first three books in the series to my TBR to catch up with what's been happening in the overall series and I look forward to the next book!

Jacquie's Review:

Clean Slade advances the overarching plot about the crime ring on the island and also introduces some new characters. I have a theory about who this boss is, so I'm looking forward to Duke's book to see if I'm right.

Single dad, nanny/bodyguard, second chance. These tropes worked for me. The romance is a slow burn but cute once they get it together.
