Our Satyr Prince (Myth Shifters Book 1) by Dylan Drakes

Dylan Drakes is a debut author with a sweeping first book, Our Satyr Prince, in the fantasy series Myth Shifters. Cousins Aurelius and Teigra are sent from their home on a mission to avert the possible destruction of their home, but are given separate agendas which puts a strain on their relationship. Both find intrigue, manipulations, and new emotional ties to unexpected people as they try to navigate the politics and scheming that surrounds them.

From the blurb:

A spicy queer fantasy inspired by Ancient Greece with a fresh twist on vampires and werewolves.

Aurelius Savair, twenty-one, can have any man he wants. Disinherited for his deviant lifestyle, the
former heir to the throne of Mestibes has schemed and screwed his way back to prominence. But it isn’t enough – he yearns for the power that was stolen from him. Suddenly, an opportunity comes to get it. War is looming, and the only man who can save his city is Calix Viralis, the mysterious crown prince of Ardora, the distant land of passion. Now, Aurelius must put his skills of seduction to the test. But in doing so, he will uncover Calix’s monstrous secret. And discover that his own ashen heart can burn once more.

Teigra Cosmin, eighteen, is living a wasted life. The best pegasus rider in Mestibes' history, she has been reduced to a grovelling bachelorette by her power-hungry mother. Worse, she is plagued by the life-destroying mistake that she can never allow herself to forget. But all this changes when she is sent with her cousin, Aurelius, on a dangerous mission. Now, she must take control of her own destiny, and make the soul-wrenching decision between saving her family’s legacy, or the powerful woman who fills her with forbidden desire.

Our Satyr Prince is a 'heat with heart' queer fantasy that blends Ancient Greek, werewolf and vampire mythologies: where the moon is turning people into power-thirsty satyrs, gorgons, and sirens. 'Wolfsong' by TJ Klune meets 'Song of Achilles' by Madeline Miller, Our Satyr Prince tell a passionate and primal story of love, lust and redemption.

SNik's Review:

First in series (Myth Shifters). Fantasy adventure. Slow burn. Multiple POV.

Aurelius is on a mission to recover his position as the rightful heir of the leader of his polity, even if it means seducing a foreign prince to gain his military help. But Aurelius runs into all kinds of political machinations that causes him to lose the assistance of his once beloved cousin Teigra and possibly failing his ultimate goal.

Teigra has her own POV storyline and it follows a grieving girl trying to make her own way while still trying to uphold her family name.

This book had some big and interesting world building, plenty of political intrigue and interesting characters, the romantic glimpses secondary to the overarching plotline. Characters and their motivations are the main thrust of this story, with twists and turns and emotional upheaval as numerous countries brace for possible war.

There is a soft cliffhanger as the series is to continue, with a HFN as the main characters continue their adventures.
