Everleigh's Ring by S. Legend

Another book off Jacquie's TBR, this time the intense contemporary story from author S. Legend, Everleigh's Ring.

From the blurb:

Loving him isn’t safe or sane.

Was there life before Ocean Radley? If there was, it hasn’t been on Everleigh’s mind for a long time. His whole world has become Ocean, Ocean, Ocean. Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.

After being sentenced to a lifetime in a conservatorship, he knew he’d have to obey the rules and live under the mysterious man’s thumb, but he didn’t know he’d be put into the “care” of a psychopath.

Ocean wants a living doll. Someone he can dress up, play with, and then put on a shelf when he’s done. A simple life where he’s in absolute control. With his “condition”, keeping emotional distance is easy—or it was supposed to be.

Is wanting to burn down the world for someone the same as love?

Everleigh’s Ring is a smutty, intoxicating psychopath romance with an HEA. It features a possessive, domineering, and sometimes terrifying psychopath and the rough-edged burly man who falls head over heels for him (literally) even if maybe he shouldn’t. This book is mostly kink and heat with a ridiculous thriller-themed plot. And you know, a ton of spanking and discipline because reasons.

Jacquie's Review:

Intense is the main word I would use to describe Everleigh's Ring, because it's the only word that I can think of that fits.

Having only read the Tristan books by Mock, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This is a lot darker than those, with more psychology involved. It does make me want to explore the author's backlist a bit more.

I read this solidly. There was stuff I had to do, but I just wanted to read it, to figure things out, to see Everleigh thrive. Mostly, I got my wish.

The book is set in a world where people can be put into conservatorships for various crimes. There is no getting out of it at a later date, no matter how reformed a person becomes. Ocean takes men on, only men, and has chosen Everleigh to be special. He is not "rented" out to others like the other men in his care. He belongs only to Ocean.

Swiftly, Ocean and his team, a doctor and psychiatrist, dismantle Everleigh. They heal his sex addiction, and reform his psyche, because they can't cure his addiction, just turn it into something manageable.

It's dark, controlling, objectifying, manipulative, and so much more. I loved every minute of it even as I got that squirmy feeling for Lee.

He's punished regularly and for some things we never truly get answers, but that was okay to me.

In the end Everleigh is still somewhat the person that went in, just calmer, settled and knows his place. I know this will sit in my brain for a long time.

Everleigh's Ring won't be everyone's cup of tea, a lot of the things that Lee goes through will trouble people, but I had one of those love/hate relationships with those things, they were kinky as hell! I also found it to be an absorbing read. Even after reading something very fluffy after it, this book is still on my mind.
