His Dark Paradox by Avery Tu and Kota Quinn

An emperor and CEO obsessed with the man that has been keeping his life in order since they were teenagers. Nuri wants to leave his crush on the Emperor and his job behind, but Silver doesn't want to let him go. A series of desperate manipulations keep Nuri close, but is it just that Silver doesn't want to lose his efficient secretary or is there more behind the ruthless leader's actions?

From the blurb for His Dark Paradox:

Nuri Narek is ready to resign from his position as the secretary to the most powerful man on the planet Ignite.

Having worked for Silver since he was a teenager, Nuri is more than ready to move on with his life, and put the one-sided crush he’s harbored for years to bed. Too bad it doesn’t seem like Silver is willing to accept his resignation. When Silver finds himself blackmailed he makes a deal with Nuri. They play a game and the winner takes all. It’s not the way things typically go, and is a total abuse of power, but how can Nuri argue?

Silver Rien is the Emperor of Ignite, CEO of Rien Inc., and a bona fide psychopath.

When his father gifted him Nuri Narek in high school as a means to help keep Silver in line, he was at first furious. Until the smaller man grew on him and elicited a possessiveness Silver had never experienced before. Now, years later, he may have to find a way to admit his true feelings. The only other option is to allow Nuri to leave him. Not. Happening. Orchestrating a game of Cat and Mouse seems to be the best plan to help give him more time, but what happens when Nuri discovers that not all is as it seems with Silver?

Will Nuri still insist on running, or will Silver be able to convince him some things are worth having, if only in the dark?

SNik's Review:

Standalone science fiction. Boss/employee. Heed content warnings.

Nuri has been by Silver’s side since they were teenagers, now that Silver is the Emperor it is finally time for Nuri to give up on his hopeless crush and resign his job as Silver’s personal assistant and secretary. Yes, Silver needs Nuri to help him run his company and the planet, but Silver has always known he can’t live without the man and keeping Nuri by his side at any cost is the only thing he knows while he bides his time to make their relationship a more intimate one.

Silver takes advantage of the power imbalance between them and Nuri is mostly a willing participant, even though he is unaware that Silver has feelings (love and obsession).

High steam between two intelligent men unknowingly pining for the other and unable to communicate their feelings and fears.

His Dark Paradox is an entertaining read as Nuri was no pushover and there were peeks into Silver’s true feelings of affection even though he goes about keeping Nuri in a very morally gray way, both men finally getting what they want most of all - to be together.
