Clueless, Squad Goals Book 1, by Willow Thomas

Willow Thomas has a new series, Squad Goals, and Clueless is the first book introducing us to a new cast of characters.

From the blurb:

The Cheerleader and His Twin’s Best Friend

Lexi

I’ve been in love with Ryder Jackson since my twin sister brought him home and declared him her best friend five years ago. He is funny, smart, gorgeous. The perfect man. Except he’s never shown any romantic interest in me. Ryder only does hookups, but my poor demi heart wants the whole package.
I vow to get over him and focus on my upcoming cheer competition, but suddenly, he’s everywhere, making me fall harder.
When he accidentally walks in on my self-love time, everything changes. One night with Ryder isn’t enough.
I know it’ll hurt when it ends, but if friends with benefits is all Ryder can give, I’ll take it.

Ryder

No boyfriends, no repeats. That’s always been my motto. But when I nearly get my ass handed to me by the disgruntled ex of a former hookup, I realize I need to change things up.
No sex until I learn to avoid the walking red flags.
I can do this.
Except, suddenly, all I can see is Lexi, my best friend’s brother. I’m creating situations to get cuddles from him during nineties movie night and even going to a football game just to watch him cheer.
After one hot night, I want more.
But how do I get Lexi to see me as more than just a hookup?

Reds Book Reads Review:

Lexi was just adorable and I loved how he was just such a great person and he really made the book for me. The pining over Ryder was so well written as well. Ryder was fun as well and seeing him slowly fall for Lexi and change his attitude was awesome.

I’ll definitely pick up the next book in this series as well as it was a nice chilled read with very little angst or drama.

Zakiyya's Review:

I loved that Lexi was a cheerleader and he was so good at it.

I did feel really sad for Lexi though, that through all his pining he had to hear Ryder talking about all his hook-ups for so many years but what I loved was Ryder acknowledging that fact and feeling really bad about it after he found out that Lexi was in love with him for so long. Usually it's ignored, which is completely understandable because you can't really help it if someone is in love with you and you don't even know it, so I was really glad it was brought up.

I totally loved that Lexi liked wearing sexy lingerie. I also liked the jealousy that Ryder felt whenever he saw Lexi talking to Tucker even though most of the time he didn't even realize it was jealousy... 🙈 Ryder really was a completely CLUELESS mofo... 😂🙈

A best-friends-brother romance that I enjoyed. Also, this is a new to me author so I'll be looking out for more of her work... 💙💙

Angel's Review:

Clueless is a lighthearted quick read. This book is about Lexi who is a male cheerleader who has a massive crush on his sister's best friend. Lexi has to get over him, Ryder will never look at him the way Lexi wants him to.. or will he?

I liked how this story started out, the buildup was nice, I really enjoyed that aspect of it. I thought the side characters were funny and they helped Lexi and moved the story along.

The reason I'm giving this a three star though is because it felt very sudden that Ryder started liking Lexi. One moment he doesn't even consider Lexi as a option and then all of a sudden he has a crush and wants to be with him? It just felt very sudden. Another thing I had a difficult time with was as soon as these two slept together, that's what the story became about. No information of dates, or them getting to  know each other better now that they're in a romantic relationship, there was nothing of that. Which I thought was a bit disappointing.

Overall though it was a nice story, I really enjoyed all of the Cheer squad members, they are such great friends to Lexi.

Heather's Review:

Fun, low angst and steamy - everything I've come to expect from Willow Thomas continues in her latest college/new adult offering - Clueless!  Lexi, who has silently (or not so silently) been pining for his twin sister's bestie for years finally gets a shot at a night with his biggest crush and man whore, Riley... but what neither of them expect is that Riley isn't just in it for one and done...

This is a sweet, steamy and quick read that gives us a glimpse at an obsession with 90's movies, a friend group of Cheer Queers who will feature in future stories and a sister who loves her twin and her bestie and wants what's best for both of them (and to be in charge of picking the movies)

If you're on the fence about reading this book and want a peek at a NSFW excerpt, check out this post!  I'm looking forward to seeing the other Cheer Queers get their HEA's and for the promised glimpses of our first couple in cameos to come.
