Spring Fakers (Summerville University Book 1) by Catherine Cloverdale

"Total opposites - but oh so good!" Miki J read Spring Fakers

From the blurb:

Theo Ward is the hot, popular jock who's never once looked my way.  Until he asks me to play his fake boyfriend over spring break... and discovers he can't look away.

Charlie

Studying is what I’m best at; not partying or awkward socializing. So when I finally let my only friend drag me out, of course I manage to spill a drink on a handsome athlete named Theo.

He finds me a week later with the craziest of suggestions. He wants us to fake date. Embarrassing as it is, it'll give me at least some relationship experience, and for him? He's tired of his friends trying to hook him up all the time.

A simple enough arrangement... until we go on spring break road trip where I have to spend every minute with my new boyfriend. I know someone like Theo would never be into a nerd like me. But as we spend every day pretending and every night in the same bed, it's getting hard to remember that fact.

Theo

I may be a party boy, but I'm not interested in hooking up with everything that moves. My friends don’t seem to get that. So when fate pushes the cute-but-nerdy Charlie into my path, I come up with a wild idea--maybe too wild.

Fake dating seemed simple enough, but I should know even the best laid plans go awry. Our road trip lands us in bed together, and waking up with him in my arms is starting to feel...right. I’m not looking for a relationship, and teaching Charlie how to be in one is as far as I’m willing to go.

We're too different for anything lasting between us, and Charlie deserves far better than me. Even if the idea of letting him go is getting more painful by the day.

Spring Fakers is a steamy college m/m romance and is the first book in the Summerville University series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but is more fun when read in order. Guaranteed happy ending.

Miki J's Review:

I enjoyed this story - had more of a real-life feel to me and had plenty of depth to the story. Two totally opposite guys who concoct a fake relationship... that ended up with benefits.... and then feelings, which they don't really articulate.

I'll admit even I felt exhausted after that spring break week... phew. The interaction between them was sweet and tender... and oh so steamy...

Overall, very enjoyable book and look forward to next book in series.

Angel's Review:

Catherine is a new-to-me author, I've never read anything by them before and I think that's going to change.

Charlie is awkward, a nerd, and doesn't like social situations. But when nice, handsome, bright Theo offers him a proposal to be his fake boyfriend he can't say no. Then when their fake relationship goes on the road, they get to know one another better, and feelings develop. At least they did for Charlie.

Theo loves his friends but Shane is a little too pushy. So, Theo asks Charlie to be his fake boyfriend to get Shake off his back. Theo never expected anything to come from it, after all... Charlie isn't his type, right?

Wrong! I hate how judgmental people can be, why can't others just keep their judgments to themselves? I can really relate to Charlie, a lot of what he was feeling and thinking I can relate too. Not being comfortable in social situations? Check. Not fitting in? Check. Over thinking everything? Making simple decisions difficult? Not having a lot of friends? Check, check, and check.  Charlie's character Is such a sweetheart, he's terrific. And even when he was uncomfortable he pushed himself for others benefit.

Theo was literally a ray of sunshine, he had a laid back way of life which is a really great compliment to Charlie's more serious approach. These two men both learn new things from each other, and both grow, adapt, and overcome together. I really like the slow burn, friends to lovers approach this story took. I also really enjoyed Theo's friend, they were so great and added so much life to the story.

Dylan is probably my favorite side character and I really hope him and Brad get their own story at some point, cause I would definitely read it!

Overall a really great spring break romance story featuring a clown motel, beach parties, lots of diner food, and feelings both men are afraid of.
