Well, now that I've set the tone for this book with that tease, I'll get onto my review. Illegal Motion was a book that I was highly anticipating ( along with Cooper's book, which I'm excited to say is next!) It did not disappoint. After reading the prologue, I had some very strong feelings for Declan and folks, they were certainly not fluffy ones. That man was a total dick, and I cannot blame Callum in the slightest for his feelings towards seeing him again. You see, I already adored Callum from his scenes in previous books of the series, so seeing someone hurt him got Declan immediately on my shit list... mine AND some of our past MCs.

I did love the moment when Declan and Callum meet again and finally figure out just who each other is. Callum is feisty AF, and I wanted to cheer for him so loud. No doormat behavior here! It's also plain as day that their belief that neither of them will ever have to see the other again has gone up in smoke. Declan has firmly become a part of the wonderful found family our Pirates have created and Callum is part of that package no ifs, ands, or buts. However, that doesn't mean we don't get a steamy, anger fueled hook up or two. 😉 Enemies to lovers anyone?

As the story progresses, we get to know Declan more and he slowly makes his way off the shit list. His asshole behavior is more like a protective façade, one cultivated from a hellova burn he's been through in the past. I admired his growth in the story. It takes a strong person to admit to their mistakes and an even stronger one to forgive. I'm looking at you, Callum, you big-hearted softie. The romance felt very realistic. Where Declan was known to eternally put his foot in his mouth, Callum learned how to ask more questions, so he understood what Declan was trying to say instead of just assuming and getting upset. Compromise and understanding are two important aspects of a healthy relationship. It may have taken some time for Declan and Callum to work out their optimum dynamic, but they did so with love in their hearts, which made way for the beautiful HEA they both deserved.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression... but maybe you can get a second chance for the second impression... Declan takes the fear of what he's feeling and channels it into being a huge asshole after his one night stand with Callum, but once they find out that their friends circles interact, Callum slowly opens up a small window for a re-do on their shaky foundation...

This book is hot, steamy and gets sweeter as you read it!  I love how Declan and Callum grow together, but both still have so many issues from their past to get over before they can actually work towards their HEA... so the angst is high and real in this one...

I couldn't put this book down, no matter how many times I wanted to reach into my kindle and shake the characters... Illegal Motion was a fabulous, well paced read and the HEA was even sweeter for the angst.

Before fully processing Jackson’s words, I heard that voice that sent shivers down my spine. Was I hallucinating? I looked at the beer in my hand and read the label. Nope, no hard liquor.

“Who’s from Kentucky?” The southern drawl drew me in like flies to honey and caused my spine to stiffen. There was no fucking way he could be here.

Jackson glanced at him. “I was talking about you, asshole. Come and meet my friend. He’s the vet I told you about with the horses.” 

The scent of apples and vanilla hit me before I looked up into those deep brown eyes. My pulse sped up as I tried to calm my frazzled nerves. I just might fucking pass out. 

Or punch the smug fucker.

Jackson was oblivious to my near stroke. I only had a split second to figure out how to play this moment, and I was sure it was probably the wrong way. 

But the look on his face was priceless. His eyes widened as he took me in. I’d never been happier that I’d started working out at the gym. Maybe he was going to be the one to pass out.

“Declan, this is Dr. Callum Kennedy. Callum, this is our new running back, Declan Miller.” 

I know Jackson was expecting the standard greeting among strangers. And I wasn’t going to give this asshole the satisfaction of knowing he’d affected me so deeply with his brush-off.

So I steeled my spine, stood straight up, and met his eyes. I held out my hand to shake his. I tried to be my regular cordial self, but I failed quickly.

I sighed. “So, you’re the new running back.” 

Declan looked at my hand and brought his to mine to shake. I would have sworn there was an electrical storm from the electricity arcing through my body.

“And you’re the vet I’ve heard so much about.” 

Our eyes stayed locked on each other as I withdrew my hand from his. I watched his face as he sifted through the memories of that night. His eyes dilated, and the sexy bastard gave me the same grin he had that night at Alejandro’s. I would have been fine to play it as if we’d never met before. I could ignore him. 

But I frowned as the fucker let his eyes roam all over my body before he sucked in his bottom lip as he smiled at me. I would bet my truck that if I looked down, his cock would be hard as steel.
