Second in series (West Coast Mobsters), must be read in order due to overarching storyline. Mystery/suspense/action. Instalove. Dual POV. 

His father murdered, Alessandro is the new Don Castellani trying to ensure his loyalty base while looking for his father’s killer. Teddy is obsessed with everything mafia, especially Sandro Castellani, and in trying to get an updated picture of Sandro for an underground mafia website, Teddy witnesses Sandro survive a hit. Sandro can’t afford to trust anyone, and he only plans to let Teddy live as long as he is useful, but their attraction is causing Sandro to question his instinct, he knows Teddy is keeping secrets. 

Both Sandro and Teddy feel alone but their instant connection and chemistry overcomes their hesitancy and soon they can’t imagine being without each other. Sandro quickly becomes a protective, possessive man when it comes to Teddy, and Teddy wants nothing more than to be the most important thing to one person. Teddy fits easily into Sandro’s life and wants to support him, and Sandro finds he can have a partner to share his thoughts and plans with and allow himself to trust again. 

The power imbalance eases as affection grows, and Teddy is a capable and intelligent complement to Sandro’s ruthless and vengeful temperament. Sandro’s friendship with Jack and his tense relationship with his brother Julian are compelling and all of Sandro’s interactions with Teddy are intense. 

There is plenty of investigating, some action, and some really steamy scenes, as well as some fun cameos from characters from the author’s Morelli Family series. 

His Brutal Heart is a really enjoyable and entertaining read.
