War of the Wicked (Lucifer's Landing, #1) by Davidson King

War of the Wicked is the start of a fantastic new series, Lucifer’s Landing. Sizzling chemistry, mafia romance, explosive action made this a fantastic read!

From the blurb:

Lucifer’s Landing is full of unscrupulous people: five families desperate to own every inch. For years, under the watchful and most powerful eye, there has been peace. With the murder of the most powerful man, it’s as if the gates of Hell have opened.

Dante Scavo is trying to fill his father’s shoes, find the person responsible for killing him, and stop Lucifer’s Landing from becoming a war zone. He has to focus, find out who the traitor among his ranks is, and end them. The last thing he needs is a distraction, but when he meets Rainn, one look, one touch, takes his breath away.

Rainn Blessings is no stranger to strong and powerful men. His life is about survival and getting to a place where he finds his peace, though sometimes that means being the fantasy of others. Working as a high-class escort he’s seen a lot…done a lot…and not much surprises him. Then Dante walks into The Magic Mirror and turns his world upside down.

With an unlikely ally, Rainn and Dante try to survive the storm, but no one is bulletproof or untouchable in the game of violent delights. Getting out unscathed is impossible; the question is: will they get out alive?

Janet's Review:

War of the Wicked is the start of a fantastic new series, Lucifer’s Landing. Dante’s father has died and now he’s the head of the crime family. But someone wants to take him out. He’s trying to keep Lucifer’s Landing from falling into a war zone. Rainn has survived much in his young life, but he’s going to college to better himself while working at The Magic Mirror. They meet and have an immediate attraction to one another.

Sizzling chemistry, mafia romance, explosive action made this a fantastic read. Well written with addicting pacing that kept me engaged and reading long into the night. Highly recommend.

Angel's Review:

I've read other books by Davidson King before and have really enjoyed them, and seeing her take on a mafia family/families was really interesting to me! I think she did a really good job! I thought how she had not one crime family, but several all trying to gain control of the others' territory was quite intriguing to read about. I loved Rainn's character. He had to do what he could to survive, and he was smart about it. I loved how even when he was in danger, not only did he care for the lives of others, but he never stopped trying to come up with a plan. He was always thinking, always trying to come up with a plan, and a new idea to help Dante, along with helping Ren, too.

I thought all of the action scenes were done really well, we did really well the suspense of not knowing what was going to happen to Rainn, and kept me on my toes. The way this book is written, with all of the characters (some more despicable than others) and all the conspiracy and action that was going on, just draws you into the book and doesn't let you go. I could not put this book down. I read it straight through.

This book is really good and I'm really looking forward to the next book! One thing I'll note is the romance in this book is not the main focus. While Rainn and Dante do like each other and cares for one another, their relationship wasn't the main focus of the story. Overall, though really great and I'm excited to see what's next!
