Uprooted (Florae, #1) by Erica Montrose

Even though life as they know it is about to change drastically, Aidan is grateful he can spend it with Hack. Aidan doesn't realize there might be more to Hack than meets the eye, but a little adventure and learning about the supernatural world won't deter him one bit.

From the blurb for Uprooted:

It’s never the expected things that uproot a stable life, it’s the unanticipated that rips it from your grasp.

I finally had the life I’d always wanted.

The perfect small town. A business to call my very own. The little found family that came with a community that accepted me for who I was.

There was even a guy I was trying not to fall in love with. A guy who was an open book one moment and mysterious the next. Sure, we kept our relationship quiet, but I couldn’t stop my heart from hoping for more.

One night of desperation and shattered glass brought it all crashing down. And not just my life, but the entire world.

Luckily, my sort-of-boyfriend had an ace up his sleeve. An ace I never saw coming.

My name is Aidan Walker, and this is the story of the day my world changed.

Uprooted is the first book in this MM paranormal post-apocalypse series that features a brand-new species of shifter and the humans that fall in love with them. This series must be read in order, although each book follows a different couple to their HEA before moving on.

"Uprooted has such a wonderfully unique sense of magic and adventure. Every word had me anticipating the next, following these lovers along their journey, and enjoying both the realism and fantasy of it."
- Jennifer Cody, author of Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees

"As the world ends, something wild begins. Uprooted is a unique shifter romance balancing the ugly truth of humanity's downfall with the beautiful introduction of truly magical shifters. I love stories that do something different, and you can't beat an ancient species of tree shifters protecting humanity! Interesting world building and fantastic premise, this romance is unbe-leaf-able."
- Maz Maddox, author of RELIC and Wilde Contracts

SNik's Review:

First in series (Florae). Paranormal and apocalyptic. Established couple. Quick read. Single POV.

Aidan lives in a small town, owns the local pub, and currently has a casual relationship with paramedic Hack. Although Aidan is pondering whether his feelings for Hack are still casual or something more, now is not the time as the planet is dealing with a world-changing event that throws the whole human race into a new way of life.

This story has a little survival anxiety and a little cute fantasy with likable main characters that work well together and are committed to their feelings. Aidan is generous, accepting and funny, while Hack is protective, kind and caring and I enjoyed all their interactions, be it steamy or just conversing.

An entertaining read, I am looking forward to more of this series.

Janet's Review:

Uprooted is the first book in the Florae series. The world has ended in an apocalypse of sorts. Aidan and Hack have a friends with benefits relationship. When the world starts to fall apart, Hack rescues Aiden and takes him to his family. Hack reveals his truth to Aidan. He takes it well.

I loved the unique shifter aspect of the story. Freakin loved the world building! The characters felt realistic. Overall, a great story that was well written with excellent pacing.
