The Secret Plan (The Game #10) by Cara Dee - Review, Excerpt and Author info

Holy hot tamales! Holidays, romance, kinky group play and familiar characters is exactly what I needed and got in The Secret Plan.

From the blurb:

It's the sequel readers have been waiting for. Colt, Kit, and Lucas are back from Their Boy and ready to spread their—holiday cheer.
-

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, one thing is certain. This is not a perfect world—and maybe that’s why the happily ever after feels so good.

Nicole's Review:

I adore this series by Cara Dee, and I was so excited for another story about Colt, Luke and Kit. It was a sweet Holiday story told almost entirely by Colt's POV.

We get to experience his inner turmoil and struggle with acceptance of the change in dynamics of their closed triad. With the age gap between the daddies and their boy, they are concerned about holding too tightly and losing him. After all, they were 24 once!

This book is a wonderful exploration of self-reflection and the ability to have healthy discussions and set boundaries together. It was beautiful to see these three talk through their worries and open themselves to new experiences.

Let's just say I'd love to be a fly on the wall at both the Holiday party, and the after party!!! Cara really knows how to write some fabulous kinky fun times. And with that major cliffhanger epilogue, we will all be impatiently waiting for the next book!!!!

Autumn's Review:

First off, to understand this book, you need to read Thier Boy, which is book 2 in this very long series. Most of the books can be read as standalones, but this one is better off by reading the book mentioned above to get the full story line of Kit.

I always loved Kit. He's adorable, and certainly falling into the role of being loved by two doms. I'd have loved to see more of the little side of him at the end of the book, though.

Janet's Review:

Holy moly!! Freakin fantastic!! Colt, Luke and Kit get another amazingly kinky story. The love, the friendship, the kinky steam is all the charts amazing.

I always loved Colt and was so excited to get more of their story. Lucas and Kit were his whole world, and it was amazing to read. Loved the dynamic of this group of amazing men!

Overall, a phenomenal read. Well written with fantastic pacing that ensnared me and kept me flipping the pages.

Heather's Review:

The Secret Plan is Cara Dee's 2022 holiday addition to The Game series and while it focuses primarily on Colt, Luke and Kit's relationship, we see many of the men that we've come to know and love from the series as they participate in a sexy Santa exchange and meet up for fun and festive debauchery at their holiday party!

Told mostly from Colt's POV, we watch as he reflects on opening up their relationship now that Kit is firmly established as their third and sees them negotiating limits and boundaries for their play, which is how any relationship should handle things - you see the niggles of jealousy, but also the compassion and care that one would expect to see!

A beautifully kinky holiday romp - especially if you've been following The Game series. It could be read as a standalone, but you may miss the relationship nuances of the secondary characters.... the tease for the next book in the series is also delicious!

Excerpt

“Little Rudolph! The mischief factory on wheels is here!” Colt hollered from downstairs.

“Okay, thank you, Daddy!” I rushed to screw on the caps on the paint jars before I switched off my lamp and hurried out of my hobby room.

Today was going to be so fun.

And for me to even think that was proof of how far I’d come these past six months. I was barely shy at all anymore! I had more friends than I could count on all my fingers, I was a total brat, and I had so many plans. I loved, loved, loved that. Almost as much as I loved my Daddies.

I darted down the stairs, past the second floor, all the way to the first, where Lucas waited with my coat. The living room was super cozy now with Christmas decorations everywhere. Rosa had helped us; she had the right touch for it.

Lucas smiled. “You realize this outing raises a fair bit of suspicion, yes?”

I grinned impishly and pushed my arms through the sleeves. “How so? We’re just gonna buy Christmas gifts for our amazing toppy Tops.”

Colt laughed in the kitchen. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s all you’re gonna do.”

It totally was! Sort of!

“Do you have your wallet down here, love?” Lucas asked, poking his head into the kitchen. “Mine’s upstairs.”

“Sure.” Colt joined us in the rush-hour traffic zone between the kitchen, the living room, and the hallway. “You were gonna eat at Macklin’s, right?”

“Yes, Sir.” I nodded and zipped up my coat. It was freezing outside, but the snow didn’t want to stay on the ground just yet. “I’ve saved so much of my allowance, I’ll have you know.”

’Cause I wanted to buy them the best presents in the world. But yeah, okay, so I was still going to dip into my bank account, which I thought was understandable. The allowance thing was mostly symbolic—and to keep track of my ice cream spending.

Colt handed me a fifty, which made me look at him all puzzled. “Treat Gael to lunch too.”

Oh! “Sometimes I forget you’re a Sadist, Daddy.” I pocketed the bill. “You’re so sugary sweet, you know? Thank you very much.”

He furrowed his brow. “I give you lunch money, and you insult me to my face?”

I laughed and hugged him. “Isn’t it better I do it to your face than behind your back?”

That made Lucas crack up.

“Fuckin’ brat,” Colt chuckle-muttered. “Gimme a kiss.”

Gladly. I reached up when he dipped down, and I gave him a big smooch.

Then it was time to hurry. My friends were waiting. I had friends now.

Lucas and Colt followed me to the door and peered outside, smirking when they saw the Bratmobile.

“Have fun today, sweetheart.” Lucas kissed me on the forehead.

“I will. Love you, Daddies!” As I yanked on my mittens, I ran out to catch my ride.

We were gonna scheme, scheme, and scheme!

About Cara

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.

Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
