Dead Serious Case #2 Mrs Delores Abernathy (Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed) by Vawn Cassidy

Dead Serious Case #2 Mrs Delores Abernathy was serious hilarious! Even better than the first.

From the blurb:

In the business of unfinished business...

It’s been over six months since a freak accident left pathologist Tristan Everett able to see ghosts, something he has yet to confess to his boyfriend. Instead, he now has a new calling, one he’s not entirely happy about… help the dead resolve their unfinished business so they can pass into the light, sounds simple right?

Wrong…

When the spirit of a sweet old lady suffering from Alzheimers follows him home he has no idea how to help her. When he finds out she’s been murdered by arsenic poisoning, a curiously outdated murder weapon, he once again finds himself tangled up in a murder investigation.

For Inspector Danny Hayes of New Scotland Yard, life couldn’t be better. After moving to London and meeting Tristan he’s ready to move their relationship to the next level, but something weird is going on with Tristan, he’s acting very strangely and with a killer on the loose he’s not taking any chances. He’s determined to discover whatever it is Tristan’s hiding from him.

Surrounded by a bunch of potentially murderous old ladies and aided by his sidekick, deceased drag queen and spirit guide in training, Dusty, Tristan must unravel the mystery of Mrs Delores Abernathy’s unfinished business and find the courage to share his deepest secret with the man he loves.

From author Wendy Saunders writing as Vawn Cassidy, comes the second book in this funny and touching paranormal MM romance/dark comedy suspense series.

Janet's Review:

Dead Serious Case #2 Mrs Delores Abernathy was serious hilarious! It hooked me and kept me reading well into the night, who needs sleep anyway?

Tristan and Danny are back along with Dusty. Tristan and Danny are visiting Tristan’s Dad in the nursing home when a death occurs. Tristan ends up bring home Mrs Delores Abernathy and needs to solver her murder. Now Tristan has two spirits trailing along with him.

The antics of Delores and Dusty had me laughing so hard I had tears rolling. Chan and Dusty were so fun to read together, two birds of a feather! I cannot wait for more! Overall, a fantastic second book that knocked it out of the ballpark! Well written with addicting pacing.

Sheena's Review:

This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I absolutely adored the first book and will recommend it to anyone. So, no pressure for the sequel then 😂. I wasn't worried as I was sure it'd be just as good and it was. I am so happy to be back with Tristan, Danny and Dusty.

This is a direct sequel so you will have to have read the first book to understand what's going on with this.

Honestly I don't know where to start, because I loved the whole thing so much. Being back with Tristan, Dusty and Danny is like revisiting an old friend, it's always welcoming and so much fun. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard out loud while reading a book. Well at least since the first book 😂. There are pop culture references galore, shenanigans, Tristan being awkward, Danny being sweet, pensioners with pot brownies, accidental body swapping, and a murder case to solve. This whole thing set against Tristan and Danny moving their relationship forward.

I'm all in with this whole series, the story was great and so very different to the first book. I couldn't put this down although there was the usual dilemma of needing to know how it all ended and not wanting it to be over. I won't post any spoilers but suffice to say that the ending ... is epic. Oh my. Bring on Case #3 because I cannot wait.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

OMG, it was so much fun being back with Tristan and Dusty! Oh, and Danny too LOL. Most of the book was spent in Tristan's POV, but a few chapters are not. It makes sense being in Tristan's head as he's the one who can see the ghosts, which lands him his next big case to solve. Ironically, Danny is in charge of solving her murder, while Tristan must help the dearly departed Delores solve her unfinished business. The big problem here is, like Dusty was after her murder, Delores is stuck in a death spiral frozen how she was when she died... and she died as a woman in her 90s suffering from Alzheimers. You can see how she wouldn't exactly be much help.

There are so many laughs in this one and I sorely needed it as I had just finished an angst ridden read before this book. Dusty is her usual self. Tristan is an accident prone precious thing and Danny is still sweet and understanding of it all. I spent MUCH of the book dying for Tristan to finally ease my anxiety and tell Danny the truth about it all as he seemed like a serious sort and I didn't know how he was going to take Tristan's confession. I'm also insanely curious about a few new side characters who pop up in this one - I'm looking at you Mr. PI. We also get the heads up on what's in store for us next and I'm excited and nervous for what's to come. Can't wait!!

Alyssagp's Review:

I enjoyed Tristan and Danny's (and Dusty's!) adventure more than the first.

This second novel is as fantastic as I thought it would be! I could not put this book down! Dead Serious Case #2 by Vawn Cassidy was a great Halloween read! This book was scary and creepy. The plot the author added was intriguing; the mystery was engaging. The main characters, Tristan and Danny, were endearing; I loved seeing them grow together.
