Curious Relations by Raquel Riley (Hearts for Hire Book 4)

The Hearts for Hire series is back with Curious Relations. While this can be read as a standalone, our reviewers recommend the entire series.

From the blurb:

Two roommates. One gay, one straight. Will their flirtatious game lead to love or loathing?

Hudson Brantley

Murphy loves taunting me, but two can play at that game. When he takes things too far one night, I decide to turn the tables on him. But what if my little joke ends up being not so funny?

What if it ends in true love?

Murphy Maguire

I only meant to tease him, but Hudson has no problem calling my bluff. What starts as a dare quickly turns into an enemies-with-benefits arrangement. Until I start wanting more…

Can I convince Hudson to give us a chance at a real relationship?

Curious Relations is an age gap, enemies with benefits, bi-awakening gay romance with a happily ever after, a rowdy bachelor party, and male escorts. This is the fourth book in the Hearts For Hire series.

Heather's Review:

I've loved Raquel Riley's Hearts for Hire series since meeting the gang in Lucky Match and watching them pair up successfully as the series progressed has warmed my heart... and while Reid and Riley's story gave me the most feels, I think Hudson and Murphy's story has been one of the most satisfying!
Taking two frenemies, one whose crush makes him poke the other repeatedly and the other whose irritation slowly turns to something completely different and making it work was such a fun read and I loved reading about Murphy's shenanigans and their pet names for each other.  I also love just how far Murphy has come as a character since we first met him and how those changes have impacted his relationship with Hudson and their friends.

This book is also full of found family and great glimpses of the other guys from the series and I loved that too..

While this book could be read standalone, I think you'll enjoy it more if you start at the beginning and watch Murphy and Hudson's story emerge as they watch their friends and relatives pair off.

Janet's Review:

Curious Relations is the fourth book in the Hearts for Hire series. I’ve been anxiously waiting for Murphy’s story! They have a love/hate relationship, starting as enemies to frenemies to lovers. I seriously loved their connection and chemistry. Murphy and Hudson were fire! Their banter was sooo freakin good.

Overall, another fantastic story in the series!

Angel's Review:

This is the second to last book in the Lucky Match series. This is Hudson's and Murphy's story, I've been really looking forward to this explosive duo. Their chemistry has been building with each other throughout the course of the past few books. These two were definitely as explosive as I thought they would be, Murphy pushes Hudson out of his comfort zone on a daily basis and Hudson can only take so much of his pushing.

He finally snaps. Hudson never believed he would ever even like Murphy let alone fall for him. They started out as enemies, then frenemies with benefits, then finally they arrived at boyfriends. I liked the detail that was give with Murphy and his job, not all of his clients wanted s3x, some just wanted companionship which I liked that the author added that.

I love, love, loved seeing all of the past characters up to their shenanigans again, it was nice revisiting them. Raquel knows how to write a good story with great characters, knows how to flesh out a plot, and also knows how to write a really detailed background.

The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is I couldn't get behind the way these two treated each other. I understand that's their dynamic, but I just didn't like it that much. Hudson was downright cruel to Murphy at times and just shrugged it off. Don't get me wrong I understand Murphy isn't exactly innocent either but still, he didn't deserve that.

Overall I enjoyed this story and do recommend this, I do recommend reading the previous books in this series for maximum enjoyment.

Tatted_book_freak's Review:

I never thought Raquel would be able to top Reid and Riley’s book, but she has successfully proved me wrong with Hudson and Murphy’s story! The emotions felt with this one phenomenally transpired through the pages, the struggles within themselves were real and the sexual tension was fiercely intense. And, we finally witnessed Lucky and Hayes’ wedding!!

“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿.”
“𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻?”

Hudson and Murphy have a love/hate relationship, having been at each other’s throats since the beginning. Their banter was hilariously entertaining, and flirtatiously steamy. Their connection was obvious right away, but their chemistry was on fire!! Their playfulness with each other, along with their ease of their connection, is what relationships were made from.

We have all learned to love Murphy’s immaturity over these last few books, along with Hudson. He grows on everyone, but keeps us all on our toes. I absolutely loved Hudson’s patience with him, and his protectiveness over Murph was adorable. There couldn’t have been a better couple than these two! Great job, Raquel!!

Nicole's Review:

After two years of fighting like cats and dogs Hudson finally feels the heat ❤️🌶❤️🌶 This is kind of a slow burn in terms of romance. There’s a lot of chemistry and action, but the relationship takes a while to develop.

Pita and River finally come to a beautiful understanding and the epilogue was beautiful. I felt like this was a fabulous way to round out the series, and was surprised that we will be getting a story for Adam!
