Beautifully Haunted (Wildcat #2) by Scarlet Blackwell

Beautifully Haunted is the sequel to Highland Fling, second in a series, and Dexter and Kade are in a haunted house for Halloween.

From the blurb:

“This desire for you, it makes me afraid. I hate that you have this hold over me.”

Dexter Summerfield hasn’t kept his promise. When he moved to the Scottish Highlands to live with Kade Macbeth, it was on the condition that their relationship wasn’t a secret. Dexter had already announced it to millions of people anyway, so what’s the big deal?

But when Dexter goes away to work, he reverts to his old ways—wild partying and out of control behaviour. He misses Kade so much it eats him alive. Still struggling to accept his sexuality, he runs the risk of losing the man that means everything to him.

When they are invited as a couple to spend the night in a haunted house for a televised Halloween special, Dexter refuses to go. A disagreement escalates to a break-up. Kade arrives at Linton Hall in Whitby and encounters temptation in the form of actor Ferdinand.

Dexter has no intention of letting Kade go, but he’s in for the fight of his life at the haunted house when he has to contend with ghosts, manic pop stars, a medieval knight and being mistaken for Dracula.

The sequel to Highland Fling. The two books should be read in order.

Sheena's Review:

This is a direct sequel to Highland Fling. It is necessary to have read that to enjoy this.

Dexter Summerfield is still a terrible person. He's still vain, arrogant, selfish, closeted and self-absorbed and I love him, and will always want the best for him. Scarlet Blackwell does such a great job of making such a horrible person (on the surface) likable. You shouldn't root for him, but I guarantee you will want to reach in and hug him. This follows Kade and Dexter after they've been together a few months and Kade has reached the end of his tether, with Dexter going back to his old ways, partying. What Dexter's actually doing is self-sabotage, because he thinks he's not good enough for Kade. These two, though, I want to shake them and tell them just to talk, for heaven's sake. (Where would be the fun in that though!).

That isn't their way. This relationship is full of heat and passion and this book ramps up that heat, tempers on both sides, this time running hot and spilling over. If anything, I liked Kade less in this book, but both MCs need to sort themselves out and get it together. This is all happening over Halloween night in a haunted castle and if anything, I wish we'd seen more of that side of the story as that could have been really fun. Because I loved the first book so much, this took me and grabbed me and wouldn't let me go until I reached the end because I HAD to know how it would all turn out (honestly could have gone either way).

I didn't like it as much as Highland Fling, but it's a hot, engaging read and perfect for Halloween.
