The Roommate Proposal - Jace Hadley

The Roommate Proposal - a grumpy grad student, a laid back professor, unlikely roommates that turn into something more. A secret arrangement to show Aleksei all sorts of experiences with another man, but Logan can't help but fall for the younger caring man he discovers when they are alone. A relationship with an end date may leave both men heartbroken unless they find a way to be together.

From the blurb:

ALEKSEI
I just want to get through grad school without being cut off from funding by my homophobic father. The last thing I need is to be lusting after my new roommate, associate professor Logan Pierce. All he’s offering is a place to crash for a couple weeks, but every time he flashes his surfer boy smile at me I daydream about dropping to my knees.

At first glance Logan is an easygoing slacker. But he’s also sweet, generous, and takes my weird habits in stride. He doesn’t even tease me when he finds out I'm a virgin—instead, he proposes the perfect arrangement: he’ll teach me everything I’ve never experienced, no strings attached. I can't turn down the chance to get my fill.

But my heart doesn’t get the memo, because it wants more than casual.

More can never happen. Not if I want to make it to graduation and finally escape my family. Because if we start something real...I don't think I’ll be able to let it go.

LOGAN
I’m happy to drift through life on easy mode. So what if there’s a voice in the back of my head telling me something’s missing? I don’t put much stock in it until prickly grad student Aleksei needs a place to stay and I offer up my spare room on impulse. Suddenly my easy life is turned upside down.

Aleksei won’t let me wash my own dishes and meditates naked. He’s bossy, buttoned-up...and sexy as hell. For the first time in forever I'm in lust—which is bad enough, because he's ten years younger than me with a family from hell. He needs someone his own age, someone who's got it together. But when my lust grows legs and saunters right on over to the 'feelings' department I'm in deep trouble. I've never felt this way about anyone...and the last thing Aleksei needs is a relationship with a guy like me. A relationship that could jeopardize everything he's worked for.

Yet when Aleksei turns tail on our arrangement, I might be ready to chase what I want for once in my life.

The Roommate Proposal is an MM romance featuring a first times, a grumpy/sunshine duo, and a steamy lesson plan, all wrapped up in a roommates-with-benefits package.

SNik's Review:

Second in series (Perfect Opposites), but can be read as a standalone. Age gap. Grumpy/sunshine. Coworkers/roommates to lovers. Dual POV.

Aleksei just has to manage to get through grad school and then maybe he can live his life out in the open, but he can’t seem to catch a break when his apartment floods and he has nowhere to live.

Logan is a lonely easygoing college professor, and offers up a room in his house to the grumpy grad student he supervises, not expecting to be attracted to Aleksei.

When Aleksei and Logan agree to a secret roommates with benefits arrangement the chemistry is off the charts, and Logan only plans to be Aleksei’s mentor but slowly finds himself having feelings for the younger man that is sweet and caring behind closed doors.

Logan struggles with being older and not as driven, while Aleksei is scared of his homophobic family and can’t trust anyone with his true self.

I enjoyed all of Aleksei and Logan’s interactions, their honest communication, the steamy times, and all the yearning to be something more but realizing that their relationship has an end date.

The relationship builds, the men grow, and feelings are inevitable. An entertaining read, a fantastic series, Jace Hadley as a new author is hitting it out of the park.

Heather's Review:

The Roommate Proposal deals with a lot of internalized homophobia and homophobic and potentially abusive parents and a small mention of parental alcoholism, if these are triggers for you, you may want to proceed with caution.

Attraction, animosity and an offer of a room... it's the recipe for something and in this case, it's a recipe for snark, steam and self-discovery and I wanted more...

There was something raw, honest and immensely sweet about this book and I appreciated the moments and the pace of the story.
