Rebound by Kate Hawthorne

Rebound by Kate Hawthorne is a chance to see what she does with a standalone romance... don't tell her that I really want to read Trent's story next...

From the blurb:

They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else...

At least that's what Ben is trying to convince himself. Ready to put his ex-boyfriend in the rear view for good, he connects with a handsome older man who's only interested in something quick and casual. Their rules are simple—no strings, no feelings, and absolutely no kissing.

Thomas has never been with a man before, but in the midst of divorcing his estranged wife, he knows it's something he is ready to act on. He's wondered for years if his attraction to men is something real, so hooking up with an experienced and gorgeous younger man seems like a surefire way to find out. Better yet, it'll kill two birds with one stone: exploring the depths of his midlife awakening and moving forward into a brand kind of new life.

One time together turns into two times, and two turns into something regular, but the rules still apply... until they don't. Late night phone calls lead to early evening dinner dates, and one by one the rules are all out the window.

Ben was supposed to be Thomas's first time, and Thomas was supposed to be Ben's rebound...but what if the best way to get over someone is also the best way to fall in love?

Heather's Review:

Simple and complex, steamy and sweet, slow and fast, push and pull, Rebound is the story of opposites and similarities... both easy to read and intense.   If you have triggers, I strongly encourage you to check the preface before choosing to read this book, but otherwise I encourage everyone to add this to your TBR immediately.

Two men, fresh off failed relationships looking for a hook-up to test the waters and of course, the connection is intense and immediate, so maybe they can be each other's rebound - casual and easy - but of course, Kate Hawthorne is writing this story and she can't let the characters have it too easy - they need some angst, some insecurity and some outside drama and I was on the edge of my seat for it all!

Both Thomas and Ben are incredibly likeable characters and I was invested in their relationship and their journey from the start to finish... even with all the twists and turns and well, interruptions...

If you like a book that doesn't always play by the rules, but delivers a strong HEA finish, you'll want to grab Rebound and add it to your TBR today.

Janet's Review:

Sooo freakin good!! Rebound was one of those books that sucked me right in, stayed up all night reading it!

Ben was in a toxic relationship; he has to get out of it before it destroys him. Thomas is also getting out of a relationship, but he was married to a woman who cheated on him. They meet on a hook up app.

What started as one night soon become so much more. The story is complex yet sweet with heat and steam. I sooo fell in love with these characters, they began to feel real to me right from the beginning!

Overall, a phenomenal read. Well written with fantastic pacing that just flowed!
