Foul Play (Blue Mountain University #3) by AE Madsen

Foul Play is a long distance sports romance with hurt-comfort elements.

From the blurb:

Foul Play
Blue Mountain University 3

Hayden
That night with Asher should have been a one off, but something about him draws me in. When he reaches out to me online, I can't help myself. I want to know more about him, even if we do live in different states. Between soccer and my classes, I don't have time for much, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends. Maybe even friends with benefits. It doesn't have to mean anything.

Asher
College should have been more accepting than high school but punching the jerk on my soccer team probably wasn't the best way to make friends. Accidentally liking a picture on Instagram of a guy I slept with once isn’t a great start either. Only the more we talk, the more I wish we didn't live so far away. This has bad idea written all over it, so why can't I stop thinking of him?

*Foul Play is a long-distance college romance with a HFN ending. See front matter for TW*

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

The relationship between Hayden and Asher sure started out with a bang! hehe see what I did there? It all starts when Ashers homophobic teammate decides to be an utter douche on the soccer field leading to Asher punching that little shit square in the face. And how should Hayden thank his knight in grass stained armor? With a hookup of course!

Unfortunately the events from the game cause even worse backlash for Asher. The poor kid was struggling with being bullied which did not help his already low self esteem. While stalking his hookup on IG, Asher accidentally likes one of Haydens photos and it snowballs from there. Daily texts turn into daily chats, which finally turn into late night video calls. I loved how Hayden and Asher were able to get to know each other even after they'd already done the deed. The long distance of being at two different colleges helped them build a friendship before it became even more. And once it became more the two of them were so freaking sweet.

"I think I'm falling for you..."

"...I'm glad it's not just me."

Some major decisions are made about their futures by the end of the book, but I would still agree with the author and classify this as a HFN ending. I mean these boys are still in college. I also would have liked the bullies in the story to get more a comeuppance but that could be my thirst for revenge talking. All in all a cute addition to the Blue Mountain University series.

Alyssagp's Review:

Foul Play by A.E. Madsen, the third book in the Blue Mountain University series, features soccer players Hayden and Asher. Both characters are players from different colleges, as they meet while playing against each other. When Asher and Hayden meet, they have a palpable connection that quickly grows into something more.

As the months pass, Asher and Hayden's long-distance friendship morphs into a relationship. While they are growing more fond of one another, Asher encounters some homophobic players, though it gets handled well. As a result, Asher's bond with Hayden grows stronger.

I have yet to read the previous books in the series, but I have enjoyed this book so much that I will read the previous books. I loved the pace of their relationship. I highly recommend this book.
