Truth or Darren, Games We Play #2 by D.J. Jamison

D.J. Jamison is back to her usual tricks with the second book in the Games We Play series, Truth or Darren.

From the blurb:

Truth or...whoa, that's not the dare!

What happens when my big mouth writes a check it can't cash while taunting my ex's brother in a game of Truth or Dare? I end up with his tongue in my mouth. In my very straight, totally uninterested mouth.

While I don't feel anything.

Nothing at all.

In fact, I barely noticed.

So, why can't I stop thinking about it?

Truth or Darren features a troublemaker with good intentions, a guy who's none too impressed with his sister's ex, and an animosity that flares hotter than either of them could ever imagine--but which the townspeople of Granville, Nebraska, are all too happy to speculate about.

Angel's Review:

I loved being back in Granville!

Truth or Darren starts out with a game of truth or dare, after kissing his ex's brother Darren goes on a confusing journey trying to figure out what this means.. he actually liked kissing Linc, but Linc's not a girl.

In this story we get Darren's story, he has a lot of self discovery and self worth going on in this book. Everyone thinks he's a player and never takes anything seriously but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I really enjoyed being able to get to know Darren's character better, I liked that he had more depth than what the other books portrayed him as. Darren was so sweet trying to woo Linc, those scenes made me smile.

There's also more than meets the eye with Linc's character. Yes, he once was a spoiled rich kid but he isn't anymore. After learning about his parents lies and the debt they were in he gets a job at the local paper. That's where this story really starts.

I kind of want to say that this is a slow burn, but at the same time I can't. Mainly because they fool around before they acknowledge their feelings for each other.

My favorite part of these books is all of the background characters, all of them need to be there or else these books would not be as good as they are. All of the characters add humor, community, heart, and joy to these stories.

As much as I enjoyed this book I have to say I preferred Never Have I Evan more. I just didn't click with this book right away, I was over halfway through the book when I finally felt like it picked up some. I love, love, love the characters DJ Jamison comes up with, I want Kevin's story so bad! I really hope he can get the guy he wants.

Overall I highly recommend this book and while this could be read as a standalone I recommend reading the previous books first. I think that gives you a better experience.

Heather's Review:

Since they played Never Have I Ever for the first book in the series, it totally makes sense that the next time they're all together, the game turns to Truth or Dare... and Darren gets more than he bargained for when he challenges Linc to a dare....

This book is a quintessential new adult romance with both characters finding out more about themselves and their place in the world, all while discovering romance with each other and I am there for it.... it's an amazing combination of sweet, spicy, funny and angsty and I devoured the whole book in one sitting.

I'm loving the premise of this series, the world it's set in and I can't wait for Kevin's story...

Truth or Darren is a complete story and can be read standalone, however it's best enjoyed after reading Never Have I Evan...
