Mother Parker (Mayberry Protectors #1) by Rhys Everly

Before you start Mother Parker, pick up the YBBB freebie Forever Asher first and give that a quick read is Jacquie's recommendation.

From the blurb:

Divorced. Beaten down. A failure. Until a ray of sunshine comes into my life...

People call me Mr. Grumpypants, but wouldn't you be if life kept knocking you down?

My life is an endless sh*t list that I can't even begin to unravel.

It started when my wife walked out on me.

It continued when my home was repossessed.

And it all came to an epic conclusion with almost getting shot to death.

What I need is to get my mind in order and my life back on track.

So when my old commander offers me a job in Mayberry Holm, I grab the opportunity by the balls.

I'm ready to put my head down and my hands at work.

What I wasn't planning though was becoming pet food for crows by this infuriating little man who throws seeds at me.

Or being hired to help said man with his new store.

Or having to protect him from a bunch of criminals that prey on his softness and sweetness.

Even though he drives me insane, I can't stop thinking of him. And even though he's annoyingly cheerful, I can't help but smile around him.

Or fantasize about him doing... naughty things to me.

What the hell is happening to me? Am I falling for the young, bubbly, pink-haired man? And is it too late to stop it?

Welcome to Mayberry Holm, a small island in the Atlantic full of crime, secrets and happily-ever-afters, and the ex-Navy SEALs that come to deal with them all.

Jacquie's Review:

Although Mother Parker could technically be read as a standalone, for context and some of the side characters, you'll want the background from Forever Asher. I read it first and I'm glad I did.

This had a sexuality awakening, grumpy/sunshine, close proximity and a dash of danger with a protection racket.

With the dual pov it was easy to fall in love with Parker, he doesn't mean to be such a grump but he's had a hard time.

Hwan was adorable and I loved all the bubble tea stuff so much I want to try one - I don't like tea.

The whole set up of the team protecting the island is still in its early stages but I love where it's going.

Looking forward to both Joey's and Carson's stories

Janet's Review:

Mother Parker is an excellent read, one of those that you’ll want to cozy up with a coffee/tea and read nonstop.

Parker is the perfect grumpy to Hwan’s sunshine! Parker feels like a failure, he’s come to Mayberry Holm to start over. Hwan is sweet, pure shine with an outrageous bubbly personality. He doesn’t let anything get him down.

When his new bubble tea shop is victimized, Parker steps in to help. I loved Hwan, seriously adored him! I just wanted to smack Parker at times, he was sooo freakin grumpy!!

Overall, a fantastic read that is well written with great pacing!
