Hook (A Hitman's Bait #2) by Gianni Holmes

Being a hitman's bait on a Hook is dangerous, but when you are in love with the hitman you'll do anything for him.

Nothing is more precious to the hitman than the man he loves, and he will do anything, risk everything, to protect him and keep him.

From the blurb:

KIT

Dodging bullets and jumping from two story buildings are things I’d only ever seen in movies.

Never would I have expected that this would become my life.

I keep deadly secrets for the man I love.

I’ll follow him across countries to have his back.

Why am I willing to risk everything for him?

Because of the look in his eyes when I purr for him.

SULLY

Working with Kit is my greatest joy. And my worst nightmare.

He lets love cloud his judgment.

But how can I be mad at him when his recklessness has saved my life more than once?

After the Grimaldo incident, I live in constant fear that every job might be our last.

I have only a month left before I’m a free agent.

But what if my job doesn’t allow me to walk away? I was prepared for a fight. What I have on my hands is a war instead. A war I’ll need friends to help me fight if we want to come out of this alive.

Hook is book 2 in A Hitman's Bait series. This book is not meant to be read as a stand-alone as the series consist of the same characters and a running story arc. Expect a morally gray story with light banter, intense suspense, and an extremely romantic hitman who pampers the boy he uses as bait.

SNik's Review:

Second in series (A Hitman’s Bait), must be read in order due to continuing characters and storyline. Established couple.

Picking up immediately after book one (Lure), Kit and Sully are deeply entrenched in their relationship and navigating being together full time. There is action, friendship, loyalty, banter, sweetness and sexiness as well as tension about Sully staying alive long enough to retire while keeping Kit safe.

Almost every scene in the book is with Kit and Sully and I enjoyed their closeness in sharing time together, the intimacy and caring along with more super steamy scenes.

Both Kit and Sully are in this for the long haul and there is never any doubt to their commitment. There are some traumatic events for Kit (heed content warnings) which put Sully’s protectiveness into overdrive, and some twists to the story which will no doubt throw a wrench into how Kit and Sully are going to survive in order to reach their HEA.

I am still thoroughly invested in this couple and this series, and can’t get enough of their commitment and steamy interactions.

Janet's Review:

Fantastic, Outstanding, Phenomenal!!!

I’ve become so invested in Sully and Kit’s story!!

Hook takes off immediately following Lure. Sully and Kit are committed to their relationship and living together. Sully is protective and possessive concerning Kit but he also lets him be his own person. Kit thrives with Sully, especially when he becomes a kitten which Sully loves.

We get two new characters towards the end of this installment that I cannot wait to see where it takes the story. I loved the chemistry Liam and Tack, hoping for a little more of them also.

Hook hooked me and kept me engaged until the end! Overall, a fantastic read! The story was really well written, the pacing was smooth, highly recommend.
