Force Majeure by Sophia Soames

Oakley is IN love with his best friend, but not knowing where he stands causes his emotions to spin out constantly in all directions. Force Majeure is a novella filled with emotions and the struggle to make love work for two sweet characters.

From the blurb:

Oakley Hoffman is a walking, talking natural disaster. Not only does he seem to be the only functioning adult in his family, but he also stomps around creating irrational earthquakes with every badly thought-out ridiculous move he makes. He barely survived lockdown, and with life returning to something that vaguely resembles normal, Oakley has landed himself an inconvenient infatuation with his former best friend. Well, if he’s totally honest, he’s probably nursed that crush for years. Yet, this time around, infatuation has brought a wicked streak of jealousy to boot.

Force Majeure is a 32K novella featuring childhood friends to lovers in adulthood, with explicit content intended for mature readers. No trigger warnings.

Force Majeure refers to a clause that is included in contracts to remove liability for natural and unavoidable catastrophes that interrupt the expected course of events.

SNik's Review:

Standalone. Childhood friends to lovers. Quick read. Single POV.

Oakley knows his best friend Cem loves him, but Oakley is IN love with Cem, a deep jealous raging love, maybe ever since they were little kids. Oakley's yearning is painful and desperate and finally he and Cem come to an understanding that they will be boyfriends.

Sophia Soames always writes beautiful prose and emotional descriptions, so even with the brevity of a novella there is plenty of tension, romance and steam.

Always a joy to read this author and about the characters working towards their HEA which is not always smooth sailing but so worth it.

Nicole's Review:

From the blurb I was under the impression that the MCs were adults. In reality though they are technically grown, they are very much still teens.

Oakley is definitely the embodiment of chaos. I enjoyed that we got to see him grow into someone who can embrace his strengths, and take charge in his career and relationships.

I would have loved to read Cem's POV as well, as I really adored his character.

Force Majeure was a beautiful friends to lovers novella. The codependence of youth was really well portrayed.
