Mason is a big, strong and sexy guy in the construction business and Jackson is a totally hot movie star with a sexy accent. Mason's back story really broke my heart and I loved that Jackson - although hesitant due to his career at first - never gave up on Mason. I liked that their attraction to each other was instantly strong due to neither one of them having a worthy connection to anyone else in a long time. But what I liked even more was that they both questioned that instant bond and it didn't just fall away into the background as if something like that was totally normal in everyday life.

I'm such a sucker for size difference so this was definitely perfect for me. And these two were really hot together... 🔥🔥 Even the secondary characters were interesting and I definitely find myself wanting to know their stories. Will definitely be checking out more from this author... 💙💙

From the Ground Up was a great read that sucked me in so much that I fell asleep with my kindle in hand and woke up early just to finish it. I absolutely love that the characters are both flawed, but ready to start embracing a second chance at love... and although this book deals with heavy themes, there is a thread of fun, steam and genuine caring that makes the darkness seem easier to deal with.
That said, there are trigger warnings for past abuse, discussions of suicide and also death of past partners, cancer and other strong themes, so if these trigger you, you may want to wait for book two to jump into the Hot Dam series.
I thought that Harper Robson did a brilliant job with finding the right balance between instant connection and learning to love, between hurt/comfort and relationship joy and between angst and acceptance... especially since this is their debut novel!! I can't wait to see what happens in Dylan's book which is up for pre-order and will release in November!
