Straight Battle (Heroes at Home Book 1) - Willow Dixon

"I've never felt a connection with anyone like I felt with you."

From the Straight Battle blurb:

"I’ve always been interested in women, so why can’t I stop thinking about Tyler?" - Gage

Buying a house was supposed to be a good investment. Too bad I bit off more than I can chew. Between my job at the bank and my utter lack of home improvement skills, I’m in way over my head. Then a friend suggests I hire a handyman. Enter Tyler.

Tyler is down on his luck after a recent divorce, and we strike a deal that he fixes my house while I give him room and board as part of his pay. He’s the perfect roommate, amazing at his job, and he quickly becomes one of my closest friends. But there’s something there, something I’ve never felt for another man before.

Tyler and I both thought we were straight, but that doesn’t stop the attraction that grows between us. Is it possible I found the person who could finally show me what love is?

***Straight Battle is double bi-awakening, opposites attract, hurt/comfort story featuring a former soldier with trust issues, a divorced handyman looking for a connection, a found family, and accidental feels. It is Book 1 in the Heroes at Home series, but can be read as a standalone.

Miki J.'s Review:

Totally loved Straight Battle. If you love small town, found family, new/bi awakenings - this is soo for you. I loved the natural progression of the relationship in this book - none of the instant love or anything. They are room-mates that become friends that become.....something. Doesn't need classification of any sort - it's sweet & adorable, funny, romantic. You can feel their chemistry....amongst the confusion. With open communication and common sense/practicality - anything is possible. A delightful book to read :)

Amy's Review:

This was such a sweet and feel good story. I could have kept reading about Tyler and Gabe their chemistry was a palpable thing. This dealt with PTSD from Gabe's time in the army so there was a hurt/comfort element to Straight Battle and Tyler also had his own self confidence issues from his recent divorce.

I loved the progression of Straight Battle and all the characters were great and helped Tyler and Gabe on their journey and discovery of their mutual attraction to each other. This is a double Bi-awakening story and book 1 in the Heroes at Home series, but can be read as a standalone.

Heather's Review:

Straight Battle is one of those squishy feel good stories that you want to read when you' re having a bad day and you just want to sink into a low angst story... The double bi-awakening is well done and handled in a thoughtful and natural way and both guys are so sweet and endearing...   I love how they turn to friends and family to help them with their journeys and the side characters are fabulous - especially Tyler's niece and nephew!

I am excited for the next book in the series and can't wait to see more of Tyler and Gage as secondary characters!
