One is suffering through a fog of grief. The other crushing feelings of inadequacy. Fate knew they needed each other.

Dominic

For the longest time, I believed we get one shot at true love. A single person that sets our soul on fire. I had that with my wife until she died, then I was lost in a dark sea of grief. In need of companionship, I decided to adopt a dog.

What I found at the shelter was so much more. Micha, the volunteer, is insanely cute and ridiculously funny. He awakens feelings within me I never knew existed. Is it possible I may get a second chance at real love?

Micha

Love just isn’t in the cards for some people. And I’m among those unfortunate few destined to be alone. I trusted the wrong man with my heart once and had it shattered into a million pieces. I won’t make that mistake twice.

Instead, I pour every ounce of my energy into building my business and trying to convince myself I’m not lonely. But Dominic could be the one to tear down the walls I hide behind. He’s the most handsome man I ever met and unbelievably kind. I know he experienced a horrible loss. Is that what’s behind his attraction to me? Or has the connection between us led to his bisexual awakening?

Twice in a Lifetime is the first book in the Sheltered Connections Series. This book involves themes of hurt/comfort, bisexual awakening, and an age gap. Swoon-worthy moments, laugh-out-loud humor, and scorching chemistry make up this 70k word story. Oh, and don’t forget the cherry flavored icing.

Excerpt:

"So, Mr. Gizmo, do you have any requests for the day? Are we changing your look?"

He snuffles and snorts and gives a short woof while cocking his head at me.

I mimic his look. "I'm taking that as no and it's the standard wash, brush, dry and bow?"

Bark.

"That's what I thought. I agree, why change when you're already so fabulous?" I laugh and his tongue lolls out and his doggie lips stretch into a comical grin. It's a grin that says he knows I get his doggie thoughts. Truth be told, I just might. Seems like I'm way better at communicating with animals than I am with people. Not like Dr. Doolittle level or anything, but that would be cool. More like a Disney princess all the animals love. That's more my style.

I secure him in the tub and don my waterproof apron. He really is a fabulous dog. Cutest thing ever with his smooshy face and his fancy bows. One thing that's always bothered me, was how we're so quick to accept male animals wearing feminine bows, but when a human does it, it's somehow wrong. It should never be wrong. People should always just wear whatever the hell they want to. Individuality is what sets you apart. Who wants to be boring and follow the sheeple?

Wear a star, be fucking fabulous people!

As I brush Gizmo out and set him in front of the dryer, I decide Gizmo is a damn star. I find my sparkliest bow in the bin, and once he's dry, I gather the hair on his head and fasten it.

"Gizmo, you're a man after my own heart."

Woof!

"You're welcome. I think I'm pretty fab too."
