Love, Planes, & Heartache by Lee Quail

Philip has lost his husband and is sure he will grieve forever. Richard attending a wedding Philip has planned gets introduced to Philip and there is an instant attraction. Philip, having put all his energy into his event planning company and writing his book about his life with Mike, is surprised when he feels attracted to Richard.

From the blurb for Love, Planes, & Heartache:

Meet Philip Mitchell, a great-great-great grandnephew of the famous author Margaret Mitchell.

Philip works as a wedding planner and wannabe writer. He is also grieving the loss of his husband who died in a plane crash, and channels his emotions into his debut novel, 'Final Flight,' which earns the interest of a notable, mainstream publisher.

However, Philip is resistant to any changes to his manuscript because it's deeply personal and reflects his love for his deceased husband. He's also vowed to avoid falling in love again, particularly with pilots. Despite his resistance, the publisher wants to edit the book and brings in Richard Moore to work on it. Although Philip is initially upset, he starts to open up as he collaborates with Richard.

Only problem is: Richard is also a pilot.

Get ready for some quirky humour and touching moments with the potential to mend emotional wounds. You'll jeer, cheer, love, laugh, cry, and ultimately root for Philip as he transitions from heartbreak to success as a best-selling author.

But, what about Richard?

Reedkaye's Review:

Love, Planes, & Heartache is the first I’ve read by this author. It is a heartbreaker.

Philip is having a hard time grieving for his husband who died in a plane crash. Philip has put his energy into writing a book about his life and loss with Mike, but has not submitted it to a publisher. His business partner Emma pushes him to do so.

Richard while at a wedding Philip has planned, meets Philip. There is an instant attraction between the two. The problem is Philip’s loss of Mike makes him not want to get involved with anyone again and Richard has been waiting for that special someone, but is Philip the one? Thank goodness June, Philip’s mom, gets involved.

The events that happen with Philip working with a publisher for the first time are a little shocking. Also finding out Richard is an editor for the publisher doesn’t help. There are a number of twists to this story that held my attention. I learned quite a bit about writing and publishing from this story.
