Dripped (Lick It! Book 2) by Charlie Novak; Narrated by Dan Calley ARC & Audio review

We are back with the Lick It! ice cream crew in DRIPPED. This s high steam, friends with benefits for the summer romance.

From the blurb:

Drip It All Over Me

Fulfilling my childhood wish of opening an ice cream shop is meant to be a dream come true, not a stress-inducing nightmare. And it’s not meant to make my friends concerned for my health either. But I’ll be fine! All we have to do is survive the summer and then I’ll be able to breathe again.

My employee Owen has a different idea, though.

He’s seen me watching him swim every morning, and he knows I think he’s ridiculously hot, so he proposes a simple solution to my stress: a summer-long, no-strings hook-up arrangement.

It’s the perfect plan on paper. Except, the longer summer goes on, the more I’m developing feelings for the sunshine swimmer who loves my dream as much as I do. But I can’t tell him that. Because Owen doesn’t plan to stay. And I can’t ask him to.

Even if letting him walk away would be the worst decision I’ve ever made.

SNik's review:

Second in series (Lick It!), but can be read as a standalone. Boss/employee. Found family. Dual POV.

Darcy is finally living his dream as an ice cream shop owner, but the stress is affecting his health and his attraction to his laid back employee isn’t helping. Owen is equally attracted to Darcy and is willing to provide some stress relief for the summer before he takes off back to his wandering lifestyle.

The way Darcy and Owen come together so easily was fun to read. They share interests in creating new ice cream flavors and recipes, while really gelling in the bedroom (this has a good amount of spicy times). With the clock always ticking towards the end, the realization that they have something maybe worth working for was sweet, their growing relationship going from summer fling to something that could work long term was evident. The supportive friends and family were great, the off the charts chemistry steamy, and the shared compromise of accepting what’s important to your partner becoming a shared love was swoony.

Angel's review:

As soon as Charlie announced this book I knew that I HAD to read it, I mean, a story that takes place in an ice cream shop?? YES, PLEASE! This story was everything I wanted and more!

From the world building, to the details when it came to Darcy and Owen trying to figure out new ice cream flavor combinations, all the way to the slow burn with the romance, everything was just written SO WELL! While Darcy and Owen's relationship may have started off as a fun way to relieve stress, it gradually built into something deeper that neither man was aware of until it was time to have the hard conversations. I liked that their relationship was as sweet as the ice cream they created, I loved how earnest Owen was, and while I didn't love how he hurt Darcy, I liked how he recovered from that and how he went about earning Darcy's forgiveness.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and now I'm craving unique ice cream flavors!!

I cannot wait for book three, bring on the rivalry!!

Heather's review:

I am loving this latest workplace romance!  Low angst, steamy and sweet, we get a building relationship and lots of ice cream!  I love watching these two interact and also watching them create yummy ice cream flavours together!  I love that this series has such a supportive friends and fam network and that we get cameos from previous Heather Bay series!  I can't wait to see what comes next!

Molly Otto's audio review:

Dan Calley is back to bring Owen and Darcy to life. He keeps you intrigued and captivated with this story from the get go. As always you don't lose whose talking or whose POV you are in throughout. Such a fun listen always looking forward to his next work.

Dripped is one of those books that's a happy feel good summer read. Owen needed Darcy to feel grounded and give him a reason to plant roots. Darcy needed the calmness thst Owen brings to really take in and enjoy this long awaited dream come true. They are so dang stubborn in admitting how much they need each other. It takes the 'help' of their people to snow them and allow each other fully in and accept that this could be real and not just a fun summer fling. A well balanced read of heat and small town charm we've all come to know and love from Charlie as a writer.
