Two men who were lovers in college reunite unexpectedly leading them down a road neither of them saw coming.
From the blurb:
Chris “The Mighty” Mightener had it all—a full-ride athletic scholarship, an illustrious college football career, and then a first-round draft pick to the NFL. From king of the campus to a world of endorsements at his fingertips, the future was golden. But the higher you fly, the harder you fall.
Fifteen years later, the past catches up with him harsher than it ever has. As if broken dreams and broken bones weren’t enough shame to carry, his “dirty” little secret walks back into his life, stirring memories of heated nights that Chris has only dared to dream of since his downfall. To make matters worse, his secret looks better than ever. For the first time in years, he finds himself wanting something other than being left alone in his misery.
How can he face Jeremy Tanner as a shell of the person he used to be? He has nothing to offer the man he took for granted all those years ago. How “The Mighty” has fallen.
Angel's review:
Whenever Dianna announces a new book I look forward to reading it regardless of what it's about, I just enjoy her writing. Football romance isn't something I read too often but I did like this story anyway, there was football talk but not too much of it.
Chris is an ex football player who made a terrible decision that led to his career ending, and him living with chronic pain. As someone who lives with chronic pain 24/7, his character is very relatable and written in a very accurate and realistic way. At first I didn't like Chris's character, he was a bit too cocky and arrogant for me at the start, and he didn't seem to care about Remy at all, just himself and his dog. But, as I kept reading, I got to see a different side to his character, one that does care about Remy, and about growing as a person and learning from mistakes.
As for Remy, his character was an absolute delight to read about! His nervous stuttering and rambling is something I can relate to, and I adored how he was a ball of sunshine. Even when Chris was being a grump, Remy didn't let that stop him or get in his way.
I think the last half of this book was my favorite, it was packed full of emotional dialogue where these characters fully laid their hearts out to each other and was fully honest about what they wanted and who they were/wanted to become.
And Dianna, that dedication in the beginning of the book was beautiful.
