The Frog Prince (The GriMM Tales) by A. M. Rose

Ever since I read Cinder I've been eager to read this one and wow, it did not disappoint!

From the blurb:

A man without a crown could still be a prince. But what about a monster?

Adalwin has always been a prince.
Born into royalty as the heir to the throne of Hallin, he was raised to rule a kingdom.
Only, the one he receives is not the one he expected.
Cruelly cursed and presumed dead by all who once knew him, his kingdom is now made up of a murky glen where water-splashers dwell and crooked linden trees block the light. Sitting on a throne built from bracken and moss, his only subjects are those creatures that won’t run in terror at first glance.
After all, who could swear fealty to a monster?
Only the bravest cross the borders into the Frog Prince’s kingdom, drawn by whispered rumors of a boon should you meet his price. An opportunity for him to show the man underneath the monster—a chance to break the curse’s shackles and return home.
When a beautiful, kind-hearted man with hair blessed by the sun itself stumbles into his lair looking to make a deal, more than just Adalwin’s interest is stirred. Maybe his lonely heart is too.
But when the man tries to break the deal, the Frog Prince must come to collect.

Each book set in the GriMM fairytale world can be read as a standalone and contains its own Happily Ever After story. But we do recommend reading each one, as the tales are connected to each other in multiple magical ways.

Angel's review:

Alwin is the prince who went missing one night leaving his kingdom and his family with questions about his disappearance that go unanswered... No one knows the evil queen cursed him for refusing her advances, nor does anyone know that her curse turned him into a Frog... The Frog Prince in fact. Until now. Until a courageous, caring, and kind healer stumbled upon his sanctuary and wove their way into his heart... Alwin never expected to find someone to break his curse, let alone alive him for exactly who he is who he was, but he found all that and so much more in Otto.

Ever since I read Lorenz's story I've been very excited to read Alwin's and I am so glad that this book lived up to the hype I had of it in my head. We, as readers, finally learn what caused Alwin to go missing and what has happened to him for all the years since his disappearance. We got to see both past and present which I really enjoyed reading about, I liked that we got a good backstory of Alwin's past, while also having a phenomenal day-by-day showing of his life ever since he got turned into a Frog.

I appreciate how this wasn't insta love, or even Insta-Lust, their emotions towards each other grew gradually over time. Once they started trusting each other and opening up to one another is when their relationship really took off, which I enjoyed. I love when there is a good buildup of emotions and when the characters have depth and layers to them, and this book had both of those elements.

Alwin and Otto reuniting with Alwin's family was such a powerful and beautiful moment. I loved being able to read about them reuniting and becoming whole once more. And I also have to give a shout-out to the sassy and talkative frogs that were Alwin's constant companions. They were fantastic! I never knew frogs could have so much personality but they definitely do within the pages of this book!

Lori C's review:

I truly enjoy stories that are gripping and compelling to read. I think that Cinder set me up for this story. I was hoping that Prince Adalwin still lived and we got just enough hints in Cinder to have hope. Now with this story, we get to find out what happened the day he went missing and who did the dastardly deed. Can I just say the evil queen needs to begone?!

Otto is such a great character in this book. He has a love of his sister and his community. He is so smart and gentle. When he originally breaks his oath to the frog prince, he feels guilty and torn. His morals matter to him and help him make his decision to be with Alwin and stay with him.

Alwin and his glen of frogs made me happy. He could have miserable during his cursed time. Instead, Alwin helped those he could from the frogs to elves to random people that came in search of him. Even as he lost hope for his cure, he helped others. That is the mark of a true king.

The ending of this book is much like Cinder. We know there is more to come, we know who it involves, we just don’t know what exactly. It isn’t a true cliffhanger because both Cinder and The Frog Prince had happy endings. It’s just more and it keeps readers like interested in what comes next!
