Sound Can Shatter (Liquid Onyx Book 4) by BL Jones

Sound Can Shatter is the 4th in the Liquid onyx series, it's not a standalone and prior reading is definitely required as there's an overarching story and this follows on from the last book. Caleb and Tate are best friends, and this is Caleb's bi-awakening and his and Tate's story.

From the blurb:

When Caleb Moon was eighteen years old, he took the powers forced on him as a child and began using them to protect the world as the superhero Crescent, fighting alongside fellow supers, his childhood friend Tate, girlfriend Mei, and brother in all but blood, Rex.

Two years later, he has a missing brother, an ex-girlfriend, and a whole lot of confusing tension going on between him and one of his best friends. Add to that the shattered bones of his relationship with his older brother, Jamie, and the perpetually strained one with his disapproving father, and Caleb’s entire support system is crumbling around him at the very worst time.

Facing pressure from every direction in his personal life, it doesn’t come as a shock when his superhero life starts spiralling into chaos too. Between rage blackouts and bisexual-awakenings, Caleb’s sense of self is shattering.

But Caleb Moon has been a survivor since he was four years old, and he’s not about to quit now.

Rogue's review:

- series
- continuing story
- best friends to lovers
- superpowers

Content Warning: Eating Disorder

This is the 4th entry in the Liquid Onyx series, and it directly continues the story from the previous books, so prior reading is needed to understand what's going on here. It's been a little while since the last book and if I'm honest, I'd kind of almost forgotten what happened so that's on me, as I should have done a re-read before starting this one. That said though, I did enjoy this and finally getting inside the head of Caleb who's been a side character up till now. I liked learning more about him, and why he is how he is. I liked that he had a little resolution between him and his brother Jamie, and between himself and Mei - his ex - too.

This however, is Tate and Caleb's story and while it is Best Friends to Lovers, it feels right to have these two together, they just fit together so well and their chemistry is intense, I loved it. There's so much else going on and I felt that kind of fell by the wayside a little here, and I hope it moves on in the next book. I loved Cal and Tate but I missed Rex. Can't wait for the next book.
