Baylor's fiery one night stand ends up becoming a problem on the field as he is the baseball umpire for the local Division I teams, and Casey his hookup happens to be a coach. Casey hates the new umpire, right? He doesn't seem to agree with anything Baylor does except when he obeys him in the bedroom.
Bad Call by Raquel Riley mixes baseball with banter, brats, and enough filth to make you need a hot shower.
From the Bad Call blurb:
One bad call can change your entire season.
Casey
The first night we met, he burned hotter than the sun for the handful of hours we spent in bed. How immature to be bitter that I never called him back.
The second time we met was on the ball field. I couldn’t decide if his bad calls were directed at my team or me. But if I didn’t play nice, the Muskrats had a zero chance of winning the College World Series.
I enjoyed his body, but his smart mouth made my blood boil. This might work if I could find something to stuff it with.
Baylor
Casey checked every one of my boxes. So what if he couldn’t stand me? I think he loved the tension as much as I did.
Besides our petty bickering and his obsession with the worst team in the MLB, we were perfectly matched. He was the first man I slept with. What would it take to make him the last?
Bad Call is the second novel in the Boy Batter series. This enemies-to-lovers MM sports romance between a coach and an umpire has a bi-awakening, a one-night stand, and humiliation and degradation kink.
SNik's review:
Second in series (Boy Batter), but can be read as a standalone. Enemies to lovers. Mature characters. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Molly Otto's review:
What happens when a one night stand turns into more, even when you don't want it to? That's what Baylor and Casey have to answer when they find their paths crossing in more ways than one.
Baylor has been a fun character since we've met him in Ball Boy, and getting his story was a treat. He is searching for something, but what the something is isn't answered until he has a hot night with Casey, never expecting to see him again. Imagine their surprise when they learn their paths are destined to cross more than once thanks to their jobs. It's fun watching them try to fight their feelings while also shamelessly flirting with one another. Perfect balance of banter, snark, and brattiness that just fits with this world.
Reed Kaye's review:
This is the perfect story when you need uplifting. There is so much fun in the story.
Baylor, needing more to his life, decides to take a job in a new town. Before he starts he decides on a hookup that starts in a bar. He has no idea where this will end.
Casey, mostly in the closet, lets off a little steam by hooking up in a strange bar with a guy he is attracted to.
Funny how small towns can bring strangers together. Baylor is snarky, Casey is set in his ways. Both are big hearted. Secondary characters play a part of this story and add to the fun.
This gave me an escape and relief from a stressful time. I laughed quite a bit at Baylor and really enjoyed his personality. Now I’m ready to see what the author writes next.

Baylor is ready to start his attraction to men off with a bang, and boy does he get one night he won’t forget, especially since his hookup ends up being one of the DI baseball coaches Baylor has to work with as an umpire. Casey hates the new umpire with a passion, but he can’t get Baylor out of his lusty thoughts and as they continue to butt heads they also eventually decide to scratch each other's itch.
On the field Baylor and Casey hardly ever agree, but all their run ins off the field show that their attraction and personal compatibility is undeniable. Their constant banter and purposeful goading was fun to read as it is never with a mean spirit and it made their chemistry even more obvious. Luckily what they both want long term is each other, and easily make that work so there isn’t a ton of angst or drama involved which made this a nice and entertaining read.

Heather's Review:
This was a steamy and surprisingly low angst read where the biggest concerns were whether Baylor needed glasses to make better calls when umpiring... and whether what they were feeling was chemistry or dislike... but since we all know the answers to that, it was a fairly light and fluffy read between coach and umpire with a little humiliation kink thrown in. It was a quick and easy read and if you like a good humiliation kink, you'll enjoy Bad Call.
