Hunting His Vampire Mate (Blood Bonded Mates Book 4) by Jay Castle

What happens when your entire life has been based on a lie? The real truth about the supernatural cannot be unknown and two Hunters have to figure out living in their new reality along with their complicated feelings for one another.

From the Hunting His Vampire Mate blurb:

DANNY

I’ve been hunting monsters for as long as I can remember, and for the last five years, Michael’s been by my side. He’s not just my partner—he’s my best friend. Things were simple. Then, four months ago, I thought we were both about to die. And I blurted out something I hadn’t even admitted to myself: I’m in love with him.

I always thought I was straight but there’s no denying that Michael is my person. He always has been.

Except he doesn’t feel the same. Worse, now it seems like he’s planning to quit hunting. And every moment I have left with him is a reminder that he’s about to walk out of my world for good.

MICHAEL

Five years ago, vampires took everything from me. The only thing that’s kept me together since then is Danny. He’s my home, even if he doesn’t know it. I’d do anything for him. But I can’t allow myself to love him. Not like he wants.

The last time I let someone in, I lost everything. Maybe I’m the bad guy for pretending like nothing’s changed between us, but Danny’s confession is the one thing I can’t deal with. I can’t let myself be weak again. I won’t.

But every day that passes, I see the hurt in his eyes and it’s getting worse. And I know that if I don’t figure this out soon, I’m going to lose him for good.

Hunting His Vampire Mate is an 82,000-word friends to lovers MM paranormal romance featuring bi-awakening, fated mates, found family, spicy scenes, magic, and at least one deeply irritated vampire who has had quite enough nonsense for one night. This is book 4 of the Blood Bonded Mates series and there will be plenty of cameos of the couples from previous books and, as always, an HEA between the main characters with no cliffhanger. This novel contains strong language, explicit sexual scenes between two adult men, mentions of death/loss of a loved one, demisexual representation, displays of grief and devotion, and the consensual blood drinking one might expect to see in a male-male vampire romance. This book is intended for mature audiences.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

"Danny didn't need my rage. He needed me to show up and be there for him. Because no one else ever had."

Well I definitely didn't expect this outcome for Danny and Michael when we met them in book 2! Holy hell the author put them through quite a few major hurdles until they got their HEA. Thank goodness for the events from the previous story because I don't know if these two would have had such a positive ending if they hadn't ever met Bryan and his mage mate. Meeting a non bloodthirsty vampire completely shook their worldview and it had consequences that reached their day to day lives moving forward, especially for Michael.

My heart hurt for Danny so badly. He was raised to be a hunter. He'd lost his dad and brother to the supernatural years before. His mother wanted nothing to do with him. He was truly alone in the world, except for Michael. Michael, whom he could tell was slowly slipping away from wanting to continue their way of life. And it broke his heart because even though Danny had finally figured out he was in love with Michael, he didn't think he could manage living a normal life devoid of hunting even if it meant keeping Michael by his side.

These two needed to communicate so bad. The ironic thing is they both knew it and still avoided it because they were afraid of the fallout. Unfortunately, traumatic events took that choice out of their hands, and I was so happy when both their feelings were pushed out into the open. Once their HEA was on the table, all the other things they were dealing with seemed smaller. As long as these two had each other they could conquer anything, and that's exactly what they did to find their happily ever after in the end!

PS. Thierry is next people and I cannot fricken wait until that vamp meets his match! It's gonna be wild, I just know it!

GreenwingReads review:

I discovered this author and series by reading an ARC of Married to the Vampire King and I was hooked. I have devoured the rest of the series and after meeting Danny and Michael in Protecting His Vampire Mate, I couldn't wait for Danny and Michael's story. Holy Moly, it did not disappoint!

I didn't think I could love a pairing more than Bryan and Tobias (book 3) and I have to be honest, Michael was...not my favorite character when he was first introduced. That absolutely changed with this story. My heart hurt for what he'd been through and the pain and fear he felt was heartbreaking.

From the moment Danny first hit the page, I really liked him. He's the perfect example of a person growing up with a narrow mindset and coming to terms with how wrong they've been. Danny and Michael had to learn the hard way, but they did realize that their firmly held beliefs of Vampires were far from the whole picture.

This isn't the steamiest book, but it's one of the most raw and emotional love stories I've read in a long time. After finishing it, I felt like I'd been on a journey, I was that bone-deep, content kind of tired and so happy with their HEA. I also loved getting peaks at the other MCs in the series as they helped these two find their way. I look forward to more from Jay!

MiKi.J.'s review:

Well this series took an unexpected turn !!! You could actually read this one as a standalone.....but to understand the other characters (they do make a cameo) and the world building, I would suggest reading them in order. They may seem all "seperate" but it will give you the extra knowledge. So, this one, I really really enjoyed. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and just when you think it's all calmed down and resolved, nope....something else happens. I mean, do they ever get a break !!! And my heart nearly did break .....omg.....great twist !! This isn't quite the usual vampire/hunter story, and then throw in a bi/new awakening as well. So, doubly whammy ! Very well written story, kept me thoroughly entranced and entertained....I really really want to know what happens next !!! PS - and I looooove the new character....that zooming around had me cracking up !!!!
