Accidental Blood Lust (Damned Mercenaries Book 3) by Mika Nix

ACCIDENTAL BLOOD LUST is the latest in the Damned Mercenaries from Mika Nix. This is a poly romance with fated mates and chosen mates combined .

From the blurb:

Fate wouldn’t be cruel enough to mate me to the ex boyfriend of the mage I’ve been in love with for years… would it?

The last thing I want to do is help Lochlan. He was stupid enough to get himself turned into a vampire and ruin his relationship with Jareth, and that’s his problem.

I would do anything for Jareth though, and I guess that means making sure his ex doesn't end his immortal existence prematurely just because he's an idiot and too stubborn to feed. Who ever heard of a vampire who hates blood?

My pack rescued Jareth from certain death when we were both teenagers and I can’t remember a time before I loved him. He isn’t my fated mate though, as much as I wish he was. I’ve spent decades cursing fate, and apparently I’ve earned her disdain for it because I’ve finally found my mate…

Lochlan shouldn’t smell this good. I shouldn’t want him this much, but I can’t help myself. I hate him and I would kill for him. It looks like he’s planning to test that theory too by bringing the wrath of a fae crime syndicate down on his own head.

Is there some way to sort out this mess that fate has made? Is it possible that both of us loving Jareth and being fated to each other could somehow work? Could I have them both?

… as long as we don’t all end up prisoners of the fae, of course…

Molly Otto's review:

Roman loves his bestie Jareth, too bad Jareth has a fated mate, new vampire Lochlan. Lochlan sweet baby vamp Lochlan is a hot mess express who seems to not help but get himself in trouble. With the help of Roman & Jareth they are able to stop the outside forces and find a way to not only make this unconventional triad work but stop all the outside forces that seem to keep getting in their way. These three show you can go up against fate and get what you want, even if a little compromise is required to get all parties’ ways. Seriously adored this addition to the series, he wanted to see our resident werewolf find his HEA, since the beginning, and happy he got it even if it was in the most roundabout way possible. KM & Mia show us once again why they make such a great writing team, you can feel both writers in the story, yet at the same time it flows together seamlessly.

Angel's review:

I have been so eager for this book to get into my hands y'all! I've wanted Roman's story since the beginning, in the other books he's always been this aloof, grumpy teddy bear, or rather grumpy wolf... And while he still is those things, he's also completely precious! He cares so much about Jareth's well being that he out then both through pain fighting their feelings, and even when he didn't like Lochlan in the beginning he still looked out for him, which I found super sweet!

And poor, sweet, Lochlan.. He was just trying to do what he thought was right and kept ending up in unfavorable situations. My heart hurt for him. He tries so hard and it just backfires on him.. although, after they finally talked and realized they actually could all be together, him and his mates got the happy ending they deserved! And in Lochlan's case it was well deserved. Sure, the decisions he made weren't great, he made those decisions himself, but the repercussions were terrible 😔 so I'm really glad that things worked out in the end.

Jareth's character was great too, just in a more subtle way. His character wasn't as.. 'loud' as the other MC's but his characters felt solid, you know? He might've not been super exuberant but that's okay because he's the steady one. (At least that was my take on his character.)

Like with the other books, things aren't smooth sailing for this couple. Not even after they discuss their relationship, they have a literal war to fight first! Which I enjoyed. The battle/action scenes are always so well written, and I really enjoy reading them.

Something I love the most about this series and this author duo is how they have characters from past books be prominent side characters in the other books as well. I love being able to 'see' characters again, it's so fun!

I'm very curious to learn what's in store for Cass, I hope he's ready for whoever his mate is... I wish him the best of luck!
