What a cute and delightful story about two men falling in love during the holiday season. Two protectors that find a special someone that wants to care for them as well.
From The Last Gargoyle's Christmas Wish blurb:
An ancient gargoyle. A hearth witch baker. They’ve always looked after others. Is it time to look after themselves… and their hearts?
Uzoth is the last of the gargoyles. He sits on rooftops as snow gathers on his wings. But Uzoth is used to the cold. He once had people to protect and brethren to stand beside, but that is all gone. Still, he continues his silent watch, wishing he had a purpose once again.
Strung-out and overworked, Grady is the eldest of ten children. Since his parent’s death, he’s dedicated himself to caring for his siblings and running the family bakery. He hasn’t had a moment for himself. Or for love.
One night, thieves attack Grady. Uzoth swoops in and rescues him. An unusual and tentative friendship forms between them. Soon, feelings and desires grow. Still, Grady has so much responsibility. Can he find time for a relationship with Uzoth? Or will he end up sacrificing a chance at love for the sake of others?
The Last Gargoyle's Christmas Wish is a cosy fantasy romance with plenty spice. It features an ancient gargoyle, an older sibling who takes on too much responsibility, cosy Christmas vibes, inappropriate uses of a tail, and a guaranteed HEA.
Rogue's review:
- Christmas
- Fantasy
- Series
This is part of the MM Monster Christmas story, and while it can be read as a standalone, I think you'd get more out of it reading the others in the series too, as it's part of the same family. Grady is the eldest of the family, and has been the one to look after everyone for years after their parents passed away. Uzoth, as far as we're aware, is the last of the gargoyles, created to protect and care but hasn't had that in years other than watching over Grady and his family from the rooftop outside their home. Both are alone in different ways, with Grady feeling the weight of all the responsibility he's taken on over the years with nothing for himself. Uzoth because he's literally alone with nobody to interact with until the day Grady waves at him, and he waves back.
Honestly this story was sweet, kind of a slow burn with the friendship between the two really being built up first, and it good to have that base before they took things further. Uzoth really is the sweetest person, even leaving because he thinks it will make Grady's life easier, and it was wrenching to see him give up everything just to make Grady happy. I'm so glad these two found each other and got their HEA. It's another heartwarming entry in this series and I've enjoyed each story I've read.
SNik's review:
Part of a series (An MM Monster Christmas), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Being the oldest of his siblings, Grady feels responsible for running the family’s bakery and making sure everyone is safe and taken care of, even if it is overwhelming at times. Uzoth has watched over the hearth witch family and bakery for years, drawn by the protective charms Grady utilizes, he comes to Grady’s rescue when he is in danger and they begin a friendship.
Grady and Uzoth are two protectors that get to experience another person taking care of them as well once they meet. I enjoyed that they grew as friends and then let attraction lead them to more and that Grady’s family welcomed Uzoth easily (as they do with all the family’s partners). Another sweet read for this witch family where they are willing to do anything for the person they love.
Angel's review:
Grady and Uzoth's story is full of love, kindness, and learning how to deal with change. For years Grady has been watching over his siblings making sure they are safe and cared for, he has to make sure everything is done properly. When he meets Uzoth he feels safe and protected, but being with Uzoth isn't easy due to all his never ending tasks... Can Grady learn to give up some control and delegate tasks to his siblings in order to be with Uzoth? Or will they end in ruin?
Uzoth has been guarding over the family of witches for years, silently watching and protecting from above. One night he swoops in to save Grady, and from there begins this wonderful story.
I found this to be a good story, it was easy to read, the characters were excellent, and I love reading more about each of the siblings special abilities with magic. Grady is trying his best to protect everyone he loves and cares about, but with him doing that means he doesn't leave much time for himself. With help from his siblings he realized he doesn't have to do everything anymore, his siblings are grown and more than willing to help. He just had to let them. I adored Uzoth, even though he didn't know the family of witches personally in the beginning he still watched over them and made sure they were safe. Then once he did get to know them, he still continued to protect and guard them, which I found really sweet.
If you're wondering about the angst level, I would say this is a low angst story. There is a moment in the story that has some angst but it gets resolved quickly. I will do this is a very steamy story. For me.. a bit too steamy, I wish there were more scenes with Grady and Uzoth spending time together outside of the bedroom.
Other than that though I enjoyed reading this, if you're looking for a quick holiday romance book to read, this is for you.
